I collected Radiohead bootlegs during the release of Kid A and Amnesiac, so after hearing that material played live several times, I really like both of those albums.

the first follow up album that REALLY disappointed me was definitely Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain.

That album is every bit as good as their output previous to this.

Not that you're not entitled to your disappointment, but it's a Pavement album, sounds like other pavement albums, at least to me.

Snarky almost falling apart lyrics and performances, if you like one, i fail to see why you wouldn't like CRCR too.

Remy Zero's 'The Golden Hum' was disappointing to me. I actually liked it ok but got sick of it fast and after that couldn't listen to them anymore.

Marcy Playground is another good example. I absolutely love their first album and while I like "Shapeshifter" I think it's way too polished and not nearly as good as the first.

The drumming, production and presentation are the main problems I have with the album. What made Pavement truly unique was Gary Young in my opinion.

I was dissapointed with Bis' Social Dancing CD. The New Transitor Heros is one of my favorite cds of all time but on Social Dancing they lost a lot of their punk rock elements and became more of a dance band. That being said Social Dancing is still a great CD but compared to their first one it weak.

The first one?
Back when I was 13: Quiet Riot - Condition Critical just wasn't as out-and-out catchy as its predecessor.

But, more relevant to this forum:
Meat Puppets - Monsters

and before swiateck yells at me, no...it's not bad by any means. it was just a HUGE letdown for me after waiting 5 years for a follow up to the "record that changed my life".

I knew this would be an early entry. And I totally get how it would be a HUGE letdown after the debut — way different, clearly not the same level of songwriting, wanky solos, etc.
But I have to defend it because I heard it first and it introduced me to the band. I was such a fan of it that it took a while for me to cotton to the earlier stuff and, to be honest, I'm not mad about some songs of theirs that are held as unqualified classics (I Wanna Be Adored, Made of Stone as the biggest examples).
That said, I still understand the disappointment this must have evoked upon its release. Classic debut + overdue anticipation + so-so product = not so good, boss.

I've said this before, but that stupid song makes me smile everytime I hear it. It's a Yackety-Yack for the 90s. But overall, yeah that album is nowhere near as great as the previous two.

I agree with Mellon Collie and 10,0000 MHz. I'd also add:

Peter Murphy - Holy Smoke
The Cult - Sonic Temple
The Frames - For the Birds
David Gray - A New Day at Midnight
Living Colour - Time's Up

"I suppose a rock's out of the question?" I've got a real soft-spot for Def Lep, but that has to be one of my all-time favorite stupid lyrics. These guys were, what, early 40s or so and they're singing about not wanting to mow dad's lawn or clean their rooms. Awesomely hilarious. There's a point at which even butt-rock has to mature, and they'd passed it.

I agree. I should preface it though by saying CRCR was my intro to Pavement.
