Getting rides from friends with bad taste in music. On Tuesday one of my friends gave me a ride to the ski resort and it was 20 minutes of the worst rap ever. I think the worst part of it was when a song came on that was entirely about this guys grill and how many diamonds he had in it.

what about going to see your friend's band play, and they aren't that good? well, they have the potential to be if they got a different lead singer, i mean... homeboy sounded like that dude from saves the day (whiny, nasaly voice). i love showing support to my friends, but ahhhh!

Musical Hell, part deux

And this time, it was own damn fault.

I have a girlfriend that I'm constantly dragging to shows with me, only because I don't like going to shows by myself, and it's typically to see bands that my husband has no interest in. So my girlfriend's been a great sport, and tags along when I ask her. So last week she said she got free tickets to a show through her company and would I be interested in going with her. I figured it's my obligation to go, because she's been game to go with me in the past. So I say yes, what's the band?

The John Butler Trio.

OK, so I'm being completely honest when I say I knew NOTHING about this band. Then yesterday, I'm on the phone with my sister and tell her I'm going to see them. She says, "Huh. Well, I'll keep my opinion to myself, but let me know what you think of them." And then I say "Why? Are they hippie noodlers or something?" And she says, "Exactly." So at this point, I'm dreading even going to the show. I down a beer at home before I go, go to meet my friend at the pub below the venue, down another beer, go upstairs to the show, and down 2 more beers during the show. The opener was some guy named Jeff Lang, who is also from Australia. I'm not a big fan of the "modern blues" sound, so this guy did nothing for me. The venue is packed, and I'm surprised that not all the Portland hippies came out to the show, but there seems to be a prominent showing of former frat boys. Then the Trio came out... the marijuana smoke went up full force. So now I'm feeling the effects of 4 beers and pot, and I just close my eyes and try to get through it. I must admit, it wasn't completely terrible, but I think my altered state may have had something to do with that??? Anyhoo, I ended up ditching at 10:30 with the excuse that I had to get up early for work today. On the way out, I saw a dude with an older Pixies t-shirt on, and I think "WTF?"

I survived.

It's just music. If you don't like it just laugh at it.

Kaiser Chiefs! Ha ha ha ha ha!

Like that.

No point in asking you if the blues guy "shredded," I guess?

I guess so... it was just him, and a guy on bass.

Hmm... normally just guitar and bass isn't conducive to top-shelf shreddery. Need a good drummer back there.

Accordingly, I concur with your early departure.

Being forced to listen to the entire Wesley Willis catalog in one sitting along with Captain Beefheart and the entire Zappa catalog.
I have respect for each artist listed above, but all of it together would be too much for me to handle.

my musical hell is getting a song stuck in my head. I am not talking the occassional one day long song-stuckage. I have had a song stuck in my head for near about 2 years. What is this horrific song you ask?

Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Some woman sang it at a retreat with my old job. I ahve never been able to get it out of my head. At random times during the day I will either start singing or whistling this song. This, my friends, is a musical hell.

This is exactly how I was with a band that included four of my friends from Norfolk who moved to Omaha. Their lead singer is a little gradiose and not the greatest singer. Normally his voice wouldn't bother me, but since his personality annoys be a great deal, I tend to be ultra-critical of his singing abilities.
Luckily for me, my best friend quit playing drums for them to work full time with Ameritrade, so I haven't seen one of their shows for a couple years now.

See Dr. Nick Riviera immediately and ask for the Leiter-Weintraub Special.

speaking of musical hell... my friend at work has HORRIBLE taste in rock music, so he decides that it would've been funny if he blasted fall out boy and sing along with it on our way back from lunch. i literally was screaming out the window for someone to help me...

not to mention that the song was stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

fucker.

oh. and no matter how much i HATE reggaeton, it still seems to follow me... had to do a few projects & research on reggaeton, and play that crappy music. people were walking my cube laughing at me because of the look on my face. ugh. reggaeton needs to DIE.
