I know Rads and others have sung their praises but I'm hearing a song of theirs (Lights Go Out) for the first time. This be good. Very Exile-y but not in a bad way.

Just saw this. I can hook ya'll up. Great slice of americana/honky tonk type stuff on Bloodshot. "Moonlight Only Knows" is one of the best songs this year so far IMO. It's definitely something Keef and Gram could've done.

New Yorkers they're playing the Knitting Factory tonight and Philly tomorrow.

Also, for those in Kansas they're playing Lawrence and KC next weekend.

Alas, no Atlanta show.

Derris hooked me up with this during our CD Burn/Mongerfest of the weekend.

I listened this morning on the way home. Has an early morning/bleary-eyed, stoned-and-dethroned feel to it. Nothing jumps out as a stand out, but every cut is solid.

Dumjack, you need this asap, as does Bloor. Anyone else that wants to hit me on AIM after lunchtime CST feel free as well.

If you're on AIM later on tonight, I'll snag the album from you. Definitely want to hear this.

I'm diggin' this new one quite a bit, but their version of "Get Up Jake" borders on outright identity theft. Good choice on identities, though.

Yeah, one thing that I couldn't decide was whether they were affecting this style, or it was natural...A lot of this is, dare I say it, what I awlays wanted Ryan Adams to sound like.

I spun this yesterday and enjoyed the hell out of it, VERY Exile. So yeah, not original, but who cares when it sounds this good. I don't think there was a clunker on the whole damn album.

I have played this more than even the new TI...

Jesus it's good.

*bump* to get some music discussion going.

It's getting massive play right now, at least once daily. I'm going to have reconfigure my rolling Top whatever for this album.

I was trying to decide if it could even unseat The Strokes or DBT in the top 2...but I have a good feeling it will be Top 5.

That will be challenging, but who knows. I haven't spun that DBTs in awhile, I think that's on deck next. I also need to snatch that Bloodshot comp from you this week.

Starving Winter Report is an '05 release, isn't it? So your top whatevers of '06 lists are unchanged.

Anyway, I don't think the Deadstring Bros. album comes anywhere close to that new DBTs. It shows promise, but I think I'm gonna have to wait for their next album before I jump wholeheartedly on the Deadstring bandwagon.

I usually think of whatever year it is as new to my ears.

As a simpleton, I go with what grabs me immediately, and this does the trick.

BUT, I still have a nagging feeling they are faking it..being from Detroit WHAT! and all...

Yeah, that's true it is an '05 release. Fuck, it would be top 5 for sure last year. This sure grabbed me immediately as well, Detroit pedigree be damned.

Don't get me wrong, it is still awesome...I just have to turn my brain off and enjoy it I guess.

Derivations aside......
This record is pretty damn good.
Bonus points for a great dead on cover of The Band's 'Get Up Jake'.

i think this stuff sucks. just so generic kind of sounding. i can't really adequately pin it down but it's just not interesting at all. i listen to something like the new Liars and then put on Deadstring and it's like being hit with a retarded stick.

Strange how someone as obviously brilliant as you has never managed to chalk up a single interesting post.
