and that American Idol thread just reminded me of it. Funny cause I was thinking about it as I was driving to work this morning:

When are people (myself included) going to just admit that we’re all full of shit? Everyone, I mean everyone on this board one time or another has bagged on someone for liking something that they don't like. I do it, you do it, and the next person to reply to this thread does it. It's just the way it is.

If this board has done anything positive in my life it has shown me that no matter what we say to people, in some way or another, we contradict ourselves. And I'm not saying it in a "Fuck this board man, it sucks cause people don't like what I like." I'm saying it in a "Man it's really refreshing to know that people are as full of shit as I am sometimes."

I mean, I'll fucking rake anyone over the coals for liking some of the shit, musically that people really dig. But I know for a fact that Cap'N and I put fucking Huey Lewis & the News on his fancy pants stereo and really enjoyed it a few weeks ago (the ENTIRE Sports album).

American Idol is just a recent example. I watch maybe two episodes the first season. And bagged on it hard fucking core for every season until this. I found myself in fucking London and Paris last week saying "Man, I wonder who got kicked off this week." I love Journey. I fucking saw Toto in concert a couple years ago. I mean it was for free and I left early, but I WENT. That’s what I'm saying.

Whatever, I'm rambling here but, I mean, does anyone else know or agree with what I'm talking about?

I think most of us admit we're full of shit daily.

I mean I just assume everyone else is.

I totally agree. If we could at least learn not to criticize people for their tastes, that'd be nice. But it's so damn hard not to...:)

I listened to the other one two days ago, "Fore!" ... it wasn't all awful. I forgot how catchy track one, Jacob's Ladder was. I think it went

- new Strokes album
- Huey Lewis "Fore!"
- Twin Cinema

Great thread, and the dam truth. Is there an objective truth that say, liking the Liars and hating Deadstring Bros is WRONG. I certainly think so, but c-man has the exact opposite feeling.

I bet if you monitored my posts, I contradict myself every other one.

100%.

It's just music. I think it's fair to assume that, in general, we all have a shared interest in what's considered "good" music, so when someone says that they love Journey, a statement which may be ridiculed by most people in the general public who are "into" music, it can be assumed that there's a legit personal and/or musical reason why Journey appeals to you. It's a lot more interesting to me to find out why someone (who loves what we love on this board) loves Journey than it is to find out why they love, say, the White Stripes, or any other of-the-moment artist.

Funny thing, I was somewhat thinking about this this morning. Actually I was thinking about meeting some of the other obners down at Coachella, and how we might perceive each other. It's one thing to have a "personality" on a web board, but it's quite another to be put in a real, social situation.

With that said, I can be contradictory and flaky as well, but I think for the most part, what you see with me here, is what you get. I just treat you guys like you're all good friends, even though I really don't "know" any of you. So yeah, I can be full of shit at times. But it's only because I love you! ;)

edit: as for the Journey thing... no, I don't own any Journey albums nor did I ever. Do I seek them out? No. Will I change the station if they come on the radio? Maybe, maybe not. Am I gonna rail on someone because they like Journey? Only in a jokey way. People like what they like, and who am I to tell them it's wrong?

Nice topic, man. every day I wonder when someone is going to notice that I'm flying by the seat of my pants. So far, only my wife has caught on, but she loves me, so it's cool.
