Wow, how did this creep up on me. Springsteen's gonna release an album of Pete Seeger covers.

Weird. I don't know, is Pete Seeger any good?

Yeah...this is right up there with an album of Bob Dylan doing Wallflowers covers... or any of the Rubin-produced Johnny Cash albums...or Mark Kozelek doing an album of Modest Mouse Covers...

Bruce does it too well on his own for me to accept an album full of him performing someone else's songs...

Then again, at least they'll sound like Springsteen songs, and that's a better bet than 95% of the stuff out there, even if it ends up being another "Lucky Town"...

I dunno. I think it will be interesting. Its no lie, nor secret that Brucie is inspired by the folk movement. To me, nothing bad can come out of albums like this because a)it gets exposure for a fringe artist being covered (seeger nowadays is fringe), and b)its more catalog from an artist I admire, and any catalog shows their in the studio.

It's supposed to be relatively light fare, too. Seems like the Boss is so ponderous these days in his recorded output that a lot of the humor is lost. The lineup and track listing looks rather fun. The lowkey release and tour seem like a good idea.

Then back to E Street.

Damn skippy....

although I'll probably blow another couple hundred when he comes through to sing Seeger tunes. That is, if I'm lucky enough to get tix again...

Bruce can't stop. We all know that by now.

Do you think he'll do 'Come All You Hardy Miners,' or is it too Brokeback for straight-as-the-kansas-highway Springsteen?

Just bought this over lunch. Sounds pretty fucking good. I just described it as "Springsteen fronting The Chieftains"

Pretty fucking good, and Bruuce gets props for another re-invention.

One of my favorite things is when an artists I like and respect mines a universal vein. These songs have a timeless quality, but the urgency and currency he plays them with makes them refreshing and new.

Obner - the site that considers Springsteen and Uncle Tupelo shit, but Journey and Better Than Ezra underappreciated classics.
