This is awesome

Quote:
This composition features two rudimentary marching snare drums in duet, accompanied by electronic music. I explored the different ways that sounds could be produced from the drum, including hitting non-standard parts of the drum such as the side of the drum and the carrier harness. In addition to creating interaction between the drummers, I interwove rhythmic motifs into the electronic composition so that associations between rhythm and melody would occur throughout the piece.

The technical highlight of this piece features one drummer playing delayed behind the other drummer by a 16th note. This creates a unique "split" effect where 8th note patterns are divided between the two players with slightly differently-pitched snare drums. This cannot be performed without the aid of two independent click tracks that I employed. The click tracks of each player gradually phase out of time at which point the "split" part is played, and then they are phased back in time to continue the piece. This occurs between 5:29 and 6:26 of the "guzzgaduh.mov" performance. I also used this delay technique in creating a section of "split" clapping music, see 7:04 of the performance

The problem with modern composition students is that this is the best they can do.

Technique and wankish rhythm exploration, no character, substance or thematic development.

It's some gay ass shit. You need to hang out more with Katie, and get your heterosexual side working again.

The reason these nerds write this shit is because they want to use every trick they've learned in conservatory within one piece.

I'm just warning you bud, liking this shit can lead you to liking not just Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment, it can lead you to bad dance music too.

Before you know it, you'll be pumping Liquid Soul remixes.

Go buy Scherezade on vinyl and listen to an actually sweet composition.

Drumlust is the gateway to the darkside.

Yes. They play visceral music of all genres and periods, and they play musically.

Go listen to their performance of Shostakovitch String Quartet 8, or Purple Haze, or Fratres by Arvo Part, or any number of their recordings and tell me that they're wankers.

That's the reason they're rock stars both in and out of the classical world, because they're not wankers.
