I take SingulAir and Azmacort.

SingulAir rules.

Jason, don't you take any preventive medication?

Not me, but I have 2 children.
SingulAir, Flovent, Zyrtec...
and a variety of air filters and purifiers

Not a speck of carpeting in the house -- 100% hardwood.

Albuterol is the devil. It makes me too hyper so I've stopped using it.

It's been the same for me these past couple of years: bad episodes out of nowhere. It seems that each winter one of my colds will turn into a conjested cough and then it's all downhill... all the way to the inhaled steroids. I've always got my ventolin ready but rarely need to use it and then when it gets bad like this it's no use to me anyway.

It's fun to tell people I'm into the 'roids.

Damn did they ever make me high the other day!

Yeah. I wasn't too happy to discover that my new (last fall) apt has wall to wall carpeting in almost every room, including mine. :( No good.

I may have over the years. Can't rmember.

Back in the day I took some Somopholine (sp?). My bro was on that full-time and it transformed him from the most mellow guy in the universe to an insane ball of hyper-activity.

Prednisone is a steroid that's given to bring down the swelling of your lungs. It's not an inhaler, although some preventive inhalers have steroids in them (Azmacort). It's a pill.

Prednisone is given too liberally if you ask me since it could affect you long term but it's the best immediate asthma threatment.

My brother uses Albuterol for his CF.
I believe my girlfriend uses albuterol inhalers for her asthma, maybe something else that hasn't been mentioned. I know she has a few Singulair or Disc-air? inhalers for allergy use only.

my doc said prednisone was my next step if the inhaled steroid didn't work. he was really against using it though.

not sure if it's the same for animals, but when seamus was sick, he was on prednisone for a while and it really did a number on him. made him really weak and he actually lost a lot of muscle mass that still to this day has not come back.

People who don't have asthma will never understand how bad it is. You can't literally breathe. Your back hurts. Your throat and chest burn. You get hot flashes and cold chills. It's really bad.

Yeah. It's kind of weird. I don't think of myself as having a "condition" or anything but I realized this week that I guess I do. After 1 1/2 weeks of coughing all day and all night my bf convinced me to go to the doctor the other day. I thought the cough would clear up but the Dr. said if I didn't treat it right away it could turn into Pneumonia. Had X-rays done, took the drugs, felt a little crazy and a little sad for myself. I just wish it would f*ck off.

Prednisone is the devil.

A year and a half ago, my neuro's partner put me on a dosage for a really bad MS attack(Chris will remember this one).

Turns out he overdosed me(my regular dr was livid). I blew up like a fucking balloon in less then 36 hours. The other side effect was that it makes you feel crazy, seriously crazy.

I started three fights that week with people. It was awful.

Advair rules. I had not had a problem since like 1998 and somehow last year re-developed symptoms...back on the Proventil (the only inhaler that even thinks about working for me) and the disc...No real problems since, but I am NOT looking forward to summer.

Zyrtec is OK for allergies, but Claritin and all the rest can suck one.

Advair is a nice choice for chronic, persistent asthma. I prescribe it all the time, and take it myself for asthma.

Prednisone also gives you a humpback. It deteriorated my sister's bones to the point that she required a hip replacement at the age of 31.

Another Advair user here. I drove right past Asthma-ville & settled in COPD-land. It sucks.

Albuterol makes me feel like I've had about 4 cups of coffee in 20 minutes, but at this point I take my buzzes where I can find 'em.

The worst part is I know I'll have to stop going to see live music sooner than later, due to the smoke in venues.
