If it's an artist whose past material I deem worthy to reside in the library, I buy it.

Would you be uncomfortable if I put up a review after I give it a few spins

These days, nearly everything I buy is song-unheard. However, I do read reviews and take recommendations from others.

I think what you're asking is what artists' new release is going to be an automatic purchase and a priority to get soon after release without hearing it and without any influence of reviews/buzz, etc.

I probably have fewer of those now than ever before:

Manu Chao
Jon Brion
Joe Pisapia
Tribalistas
Salif Keita
Max de Castro
Carlinhos Brown
Lloyd Cole

However, 90%+ of what I buy I haven't heard even a short sample of prior to purchase. But the purchase decision isn't automatic and is influenced by reviews, other's opinions, impulse decisions, etc.

Stephen Malkmus

SFA
Les Savy Fav (are they still current?)
Andrew Bird
Decemberists
Built To Spill
Black Heart Procession
Calexico
Earlimart
Modest Mouse
Pinback
Rogue Wave
The Shins
Radiohead
Wayne Robbins & The Hellsayers

and up until this year Grandaddy . . . all get a free pass from me.

I'll have to preview Enon, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Sixteen Horsepower, and Clinic before I buy any of their future albums (but I expect good things). I also have to keep an eye on what ex-members of bands like McLusky and The Dismemberment plan do.

I have very few these days too. These come to mind:

The Glands (should they ever release anything again)
Black Heart Procession
Drive-By Truckers (although if my opinion of their latest album doesn't change, they'll be off the list)
New Year/Kadane brothers
Andrew Bird
Kate Bush
Destroyer
Carl Newman
Fugazi

Virtually all the music I buy is unhead before purchase.

That's about as wild as I get.
