I think I'm taking Mario Williams.

1. He won't hold out.

2. He may actually be cheaper.

3. I value a freak DE higher than a tailback/

4. Reggie Bush can gain 3,000 all purpose yard and score 33 touchdowns and the Texans will still get their brains beat in by Peyton Manning, Byron Leftwich, and Vince Young/Matt Leinart twice a year b/c they can't pressure the passer.

Build on the lines, kids

I would take Mario Williams as well. they can still take a decent RB in the 2nd or 3rd Round.

I was just about to reference your Stars Fell On Alabama personalized plate in that other thread...

Using your criteria though I'd take AJ Hawk I guess. I see Leinart having Danny Wuerfuel syndrome in the pros.

Exactly. And, I wouldn't take him for 2 reasons. #1 -- he crosseyed, and therefore, SORRY. #2 -- the fucking hair. Buy the kid a comb, he will regret his appearance on the Today Show as soon as next week.

Yeah, Wario -- HE BIG. and I like yer boy D'Brickashaw (not as #1, just in general) cos he has dat cool name, and had on a fine tie under grey sweater combo on the aforementioned Today Show.

And I bet he showed it to that chinese lookin bitch

I take Mario Williams or D'Brickshaw Ferguson, neither can hold out for as much as a QB or RB and they have more overall utility and longevity when it comes to their career.
RB is a somewhat overrated position. A good, durable back that can catch the ball is a lot more important these days than a superstar back who runs it 30+ times a game for 100+ yds a pop each time.
I wouldn't even waste my time with Leinart. He's good, but it takes a few years to develop a back like him, and the Texans are not in the same situation the Bengals were in a few years back. David Carr is a good QB, he just takes a beating like no man should each game.

Yeah, they hollerin' that Mario that Julius Peppers-style freak. That's some big talk.

And I've been meaning to discuss with you for a while how fucking awsome a name D'Brickashaw is. Instant admission to the Hall of Name.

It is too late to trade that pick IMO, most of the great players who were looking for trades are gone and none of the other crappy teams really want this pick.
Overall, it is a somewhat shitty draft. All the players in the first round are quality, but there isn't one that is blowing everyone away that is a skill position player.
I wouldn't waste picks or a bunch of money on the first pick this year.

Me, too. I predict Reggie Bush will end up having nothing more than a fair to middling NFL career, along the lines of someone like Warrick Dunn. Decent player, certainly, but not a difference maker or franchise savior. Mario Williams is like Reggie White without the clerginess. That is one bad ass muhfuh.

Reggie Bush can only HOPE he has a career like Warrick Dunn.

Warrick never gets the props he deserves. (not that you were hating FT)

Did you know that if he goes for over 1000 yards this year he'll break into the top 20 all time rushing leaders?

Dude is nothing but inury free production going into his 10th year when running backs are a dime a dozen.

The only point I was trying to make was that Dunn is solid, but NOT a franchise savior...and Bush won't be, either. He'll play 8-9 seasons, pass 1,000 yards maybe 5-6 times, and make a Pro Bowl or two. That's IT. No MVP, no Texans Super Bowl, etc.

That is impressive, though, about Dunn cracking the Top 20.

if i were the texans, i would take ferguson. its clear that they need to make some moves on their habitually awful o-line, and this would be a good first step. im not too high on mario williams, since he lacked consistency in his last season at nc state, and reggie bush in that a running back's career is too perilous to take that high and this is a deep draft in running backs.

After what happened to them with Tony Boselli, I doubt they'll EVER go for another big-name high-dollar OL.

ferguson is no tony boselli. if those who handle drafts in the texans cant see that, then they should probably be kicked to the curb.

I don't understand the Williams infatuation. I get that a freak DE is a GREAT thing to have, but dude wasn't a standout for years. It's not like he has this body of work that just screams "I'll save you" to a franchise. he might prove to be great, but I guess that he had great workouts because I'd never heard of the guy before 6 weeks ago.

Obviously I am biased, but here is an explanation as to why he started off slowly but finished like a beast last year for us:

Quote:
Critics point to the fact that 13½ of Williams' 14½ sacks last season came in the Wolfpack's final seven games and wonder about his consistency. Williams offered an interesting explanation for that. It took him four games to figure out how to better deal with cut blocks. Instead of wasting time pushing down with both hands on blockers' shoulder pads and stepping around the block the way linemen are taught, Williams learned how to handle blockers with one hand or just hurdle them.

From this article, which makes a great case for Williams over Bush: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/c ... id=2419503

thats actually a pretty convincing argument. i still think the texans should take ferguson though, although i would move up williams from 3rd on my draft board to 2nd.

A league source tells us that the Houston Texans have informed Joel Segal, the agent for Reggie Bush, that the team has a "done deal" with defensive end Mario Williams.

The only question at this point, as the source explained, is whether the Texans are simply making a last-ditch effort to squeeze Segal into taking a more friendly deal.

If this isn't just a marketing ploy, it represents a stunning turn of events. On Thursday, we heard that Bush was a "done deal." And even though the team denied it, another source told us that the team's interest in Williams was merely a smokescreen, aimed at leveraging Bush into wanting less money.

If, in the end, the Texans pass on Bush, the question is whether the team decided to make the move based on merit, money, or mischief. Our guess is that it's a mixture of all three, and that the most recent round of ugly news reports regarding Reggie, his family, and the dudes of New Era was the thing that made the Texans decide to move on.

Still, we've re-confirmed that, earlier in the week, the Texans' interest in Williams arose solely from their desire to drive down Bush's price tag, and that the Texans viewed Williams as the guy whom Bush's camp would most likely regard as a legitimate alternative. So if the Texans have indeed locked on to Mario, it represents a complete 180 from their earlier position.

____________________________________________________________

Although the latest source linking defensive end Mario Williams to the Houston Texans at No. 1 hasn't said that the deal is "done," we're told that Williams and the Texans are extremely close to a contract.

Meanwhile, we hear that Joel Segal is pooping Pop Tarts regarding the apparent fact that his client, Reggie Bush, won't be the first overall pick in the draft. Bush's first order of business after the draft, we believe, will be to fire Segal.

Unreal.
