Today I couldn't resist purchasing this classic Underworld album, Second Toughest In the Infants on cd when I saw it in the used bins for a mere $1.99 even though I already have it.

Sometimes I feel compelled to buy multiple copies of albums I already own in order to be able to give it to someone else that might appreciate it as much as I do. Anybody else do this out of love or sentimental reasons too?

<------- total geek. I know.

sure, it's geeky, but it's also very generous and sweet.

i've purchased three copies of funeral by arcade fire. one for me, one for a friend and one for my cousin. no one liked it as much as i did.

i follow this practice more often with movies, though. garden state, saw once by myself, liked it so much, i took my roommate one weekend and my bf at the time the next weekend. the good girl, saw once by myself, took my husband to see it the next day.

Don't have that kinda spare change lying around, so, no.

Though I do have about 8 copies of my brother Mark's demo.

Two copies of Willie Nile's Streets of New York. One for me and the other for Prince of Darkness.

Does it surprise anyone that I owe multiple copies of some matchbox twenty CDs? No? I didn't think so.

Now I listen to most of my music on my iPod, so the discs stay safely at home at all times and I haven't really bought "back up" copies of anything.

I keep losing New Adventures In Hi Fi, mostly as it looks like a blank disc I think. For give-aways, I usually hand over mine and go replace it later, so I never actually have multiples.

I do have two copies of some Costello and U2 and such, things I have on CD and then see nice copies of on vinyl for under a dollar.

I have two copies of OK Computer. I thought one was too scratched to be played, since it wasn't working with my system at the time. It turned out my cd player was what was crapping out on me.

See, that's not even ironically funny...

I don't buy multiple copies per say...but I do upgrade from time to time my albums that are kinda scratched up, either through lots of use or abouse or just 'cause I grabbed a cheap copy, regardless of condition. Most recently, I picked up another copy of Poguetry in Moption in excellent shape to replace the trashed one I was still playing. Have gone through probably like five copies of Ray Charles: Modern Sounds in Country & Western to get the scratch-free copy I have today.

I only buy replacements when the first one gets worn-out:

The Jazz Butcher "Bloody Nonsense"
The B-52's debut

Any 77s CD that came out prior to 1994 is worth at least $30, so I pick those up when I see them used in case I either lose one of my copies, or need to sell them later.

I have Fugazi's "In on the Kill Taker" on cassette and CD because I had to have it on the day it was released, but the stores around me were sold out of the CD copies.

Not counting all the vinyl/CD duplicates:

2 vinyl copies of Slow Against the Glass ep (one still sealed, which I won in a contest - most likely because I was the only one who entered)

2 CD copies of the Copyright '91 Geffen debut (usually referred to as Circle C). Geffen only printed 4,000 copies of it, and I used to think that'd make it valuable in the future, but it turns out that 4,000 was approximately 3,999 more than they needed.

2 CD copies of Christa Couture Starter ep

2 CD copies of Lucinda Williams '88 self-titled album, but one is the re-ish with bonus tracks.

Most things I have two copies of are from the merging of Mrs. Beachy's and my collections.

 You know it's right when you find the same Elvis Costello and Matthew Sweets on her shelf...medicine cabinets got nothing on the record stacks IMHO

I have a still-in-shrinkwrap copy of Spoon's "A Series of Sneaks" (the major label version) that I'm leaving unopened because, for a time, I thought it might be worth something.

I've purchased at least 3 copies of J Buckley's Grace for various and sundry reasons---I like to think I'm supporting his mother.

I believe the only albums I have multiple copies of are ones in which I have multiple formats for. F'stance I have "Grace" on MiniDisc and CD. Steely Dan on both vinyl and CD, etc. If I see something cheap enough I pull the trigger.

matchbox twenty was my gateway band. We've since broken up, but I can't really hate them.

Are you talking about Tabitha's Secret? That was Rob, the drummer and the bassist's former band and a pretty decent disc. Thanks for the offer, though.
