Has anyone seen this movie yet? I see a lot of f*cked up movies (I'm still the only person I know who suffered through Chaos), but this one really got to me.

Here's the imdb description of the film.

I don't want to give too much of it away if anyone's planning on seeing the film, so maybe stop reading here if you're going to see it.

A 14 year old meets a 30-ish guy online. They agree to meet, and do meet at a coffee shop. She's a bit more flirty than he is, but it appears that he is not against messing around with her. They go back to his house and that's when the story takes an odd turn. Suddenly she's got the upper hand and soon she's teaching him a lesson about being a shitbag pedophile.

Great, right? The underdog wins. End of story. Not really. What I wrestled with was the fact that at times throughout the movie, I actually felt bad for this guy. And it's not even like he's wrongly accused of being a pedophile. He IS a pedophile. So, the part of me that feels bad when I see people getting hurt kicked in when it so obviously shouldn't have.

If anyone else has seen this, speak up. I'd love to know what you thought of the story/movie and the acting, also what you felt like after you saw it.

I'm very happy to read that she's 19 in real life. I always wonder how adult subjects are explained to kid actors.

I saw the movie today. I'm not really sure how I liked it as a whole.

Spoilers ahead:

I thought the torture scene was often hilarious, though I'm not sure if that was its intent. I also sympathized with the guy, even up to the last scene, when he confesses to being invoted in Donna's murder. After making the girl seem like a psycho-vigilante for the last hour, a lot more was needed to win me over to her side.

And that scene so needed blood. You can't have amateur castration without blood going all over the place, even if it's being faked.

yeah, without a doubt. i kept thinking, "he's not feeling his balls being chopped off? is it really that easy to perform a castration?!"

i felt at times that the movie had turned into an after school special. "don't fuck kids, or they might fuck you back!"

I've been wanting to see this...don't know if its showing around town yet or not.

I did just watch a movie on video a couple weeks ago that your comments reminded me of, specifically when you mention the movie giving you sympathy for the pedophile in the movie. The movie I watched was with Kevin Bacon playing a child-molester, just released from prision, and as much as I think those types need to be beaten to death, slowly and painfully, and as much as I know that the odds for any of them actually changing are astronomical, the movie managed to get me to feel some sympathy for the guy from time to time. If nothing else, getting you to feel emotions completely opposite those you normally would is good film making.

So...I'm betting on this at least being well made. Hopefully, I'll get to see it soon.

The best castration scene is in I Spit on Your Grave, though you don't actually see severed penis.
The scene toward the end of Last House on the Left, where the mother bites one of the killers penis during a BJ is pretty decent too.

are you talking about sleepers? (i can't think of him playing a child molester in another movie.) kevin bacon's character was actually the prison guard that molested kids at a juvenile facility.

nope, he played a molester in The Woodsman, as well. That was a horrible movie to get through for the same reason... I found myself feeling sorry for a child molester. Damn these mixed emotions.

Yeah...The Woodsman was it. Well made movie in that it pretty much takes your emotions out of your own hands and bends them at will...which, again, I consider a sign of a well crafted film...but very difficult to watch...

This weekend, I'm doing a "most disturbing movie" marathon. I need three titles, have two picked already -- Bad Education, Hard Candy --; now, give me a third.

Overall, not disturbing, but it has some cringe-worthy moments. Love Mike Leigh.

Just watched it myself, and I am unprepared for how much i liked it. I tried to know as little as possible about it going in, and thus deliberately didn't read this thread until now. Still christ, you guys are right, they fuck with your loyalties right til the end.

I watched this a couple months ago. I liked the movie as a whole, but I wasn't too keen on the ending. That castration scene was definately hard to watch.
