The song titles alone have turned me off of this album, but I am curious. Same ol' RHCP sound, or did they do anything different?

pm sent. i can't wait to hear this. i already defended the shit out of them on that other thread...but i don't get why people hate on them so much. great band that has been relatively consistent over the years and that just keeps maturing and doesn't stop writing good songs. sure, they're not what they used to be, but they've changed so many times over the years that they never really "were" anything.

It's hard to choose. I'm on my third listen and I truly feel that this is the best work they've done since BSSM. So far my favorites would have to be She's Only 18, Slow Cheetah, Charlie, Readymade, and So Much I. Seriously there's not one song I would say that I dislike though. Great work.

the discussion on amazon makes me feel good about this though. can't wait for it to finish downloading.

'Stadium Arcadium' was originally scheduled to be a trilogy of albums each released six months apart, but was condensed into one 28 track double album so that the music could be heard more quickly.

got that off wikipedia. that's also promising. if they have 38 songs to choose from and they dropped 10 they probably got somewhere. they're usually a pretty good bside band though.

read this:

Quote:
Speaking to MTV News, Kiedis called the album "retardedly painful funk" and said that some songs are just "straightout dirty funk". He added that the Peppers' more melodic sounds as heard on 'Californication' (1999) and 'By The Way' (2002) will be present on the album. He also added that "John Frusciante has really fallen in love with the art of treating sounds. The album's layered, but not in a heavy-handed way. John's work is definitely of the masterpiece quality, as a guitar player and sound treatment-ist. He has certainly gone to some weird über-level of hearing some Beethoven-sized symphony shit in his head. He really shines on this record."

Bassist Flea has said "If you don't like this record, you don't like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Period."

Engineer Ryan Hewitt talks about his work on the Red Hot Chili Peppers forthcoming double-CD. When asked about the sound of the album Hewitt said "“Everyone's asking me, ‘Are they bringing back the funk?’” Hewitt confides. “All I can say is, ‘Yes.’”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Flea says that Stadium Arcadium is "by far the best thing we've ever done."

i'm very excited to hear this.

Or a WOW compilation. Flea would kick up a storm on a funked up version of "Shout To The Lord."

So basically, the single is fairly bland but still very good. It's two very legit discs, each one is about 1 hour long. There's a lot to look forward to hear. If this is as bland as the sound gets on the rest of the 2-disc set I'll be very happy.

Snow is alright. Nothing special, maybe it'll be a grower like track 2 on By The Way. It's a well written good song but it's nothing too impressive. So far they haven't "brought the funk" as promised at all.

track 3 is "funkier" but it's funky in the same way as "this velvet glove" from californication except not nearly as cool or good. frusciante's little solos are incredible though. most enjoyable thing about track 3 so far. oveall, it kind of sucks.

the title track, track 4 is pretty damn boring so far. the best song is the first song so far, and that's not saying much. if the lead single is the best song we've got some problems. well, at least there's still 24 songs to come.

his backups were a huge up on everything since californication, and yeah, he continues to shine here. him and flea are just constantly jockeying for mvp of this band.

the title track sucks. sucks.

the next song better be funky.

edit: and oh hell yes, it is.

best song on the album so far. oh man, great "mellowship" like interplay...a very simple guitar line from fru and flea just fills it in simply and perfectly.

oh man, then it moves to this bsection where it just takes off. sweet. great percussion breakdown. trumpet from flea! haha awesome

\new edit
pretty disappointed so far. "hump de bump" is by far number one. then the single. fru tears it up on "she's only 18" but the song itself kind of blows. i'm hoping that by the end of these 28 tracks i can put together a 10 track decent album.

this may be their Melon Collie, but just way too late in their discography and infinitely more disappointing. In which case there'll be one more marginal album and then they'll take a break for a while.

i'll just keep on editing

"slow cheetah" is pretty bad. it has this little instrumental section that lasts like 15 seconds where flea plays trumpet....it sounds EXACTLY like "pretty little ditty" shameless, they are.

Don't you realize that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have sucked complete asshole since 1989? By the Way, the one time I involuntarily heard it, made me want to cut off my ears using only a butterknife. "Other Side" is one of the most dreadfully boring songs I've heard in my life.

Their new album is going to be a steaming pile of shit. They just have to make it sound exciting in interviews to sell copies.

I will refer you to this thread where i defended them pretty vehemently. i won't be doing that again here.

track 8, "torture me" had potential musically but then they tried to lean on the crutch of horns again and then it got even worse. chris martin-esque lyrics.

Anthony Kiedis Wrote:
All the leave are turning brown/The wind is pushing me around/Let's go!

Image

"Torture me with sorcery?" Is he serious? At the cost of making his terrble lyrics rhyme, he makes them even more terrible. He's so lucky Frusciante shreds the solo.
