I always forget that the Bad Seeds started out as what was essentially a supergroup, using nothing but well-established players. Since then, the lineup has continued to recruit members whose resumes are pretty damn good.

My case for:

The Bad Seeds

Mick Harvey / Nick Cave from Birthday Party / Boys Next Door

Tracy Pew and Rowland S. Howard from BP/BND both played on a couple of albums too.

Blixa from Einsturzende Neubauten

Thomas Wydler / Roland Wolf from Die Haut

Warren Ellis from Dirty Three

Kid Congo Powers from Gun Club / Knoxville Girls / Cramps

Barry Adamson from Magazine

Martyn P. Casey from the Triffids

Hugo Race from True Spirit

Conway Savage, solo artist, has also played with Robert Forster and Blue Ruin

Jim Sclavunos from the Cramps

One up that shit. I dare ya.

Reindeer Section:

Mick Cooke & Richard Colburn - Belle and Sebastian
Aidan Moffatt - Arab Strap
John Cummings - Mogwai
Gary Lightbody & Jonny Quinn - Snow Patrol
Norman Blake - Teenage Fanclub
Roddy Woomble - Idlewild

Scottish supergroup inspired by Lou Barlow of all people.

Damn Yankees had the Nuge and Tommy Shaw, but I don't remember who else.

edit: I just saw that your topic title is best supergroup of all time. I definitely don't think DY is the best, but I do love Reindeer Section.

Agreed. Zwan have an even greater sum of parts though.

This is the obvious answer. I did like Blind Faith's one and only album and in the indie world there's Luna...

Dean Wareham - Galaxie 500
Justin Harwood - The Chills
Stanley Demeski - The Feelies

That lineup made exactly one album together... as did Blind Faith.
And I think the first Breeders record is light years better than the Blind Fath record.

Breeders - "Happiness Is a Warm Gun" >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Blind Faith - "Well, Allright"

and the source material = the source material (Beatles vs. Buddy Holly)

And I'll see your "Can't Find My Way home" and raise you a "Fortunately Gone".

Pod is a sorrowfully overlooked album. Deserves so much more respect than it gets.

Original lineup (for the Pod LP while the Pixies were still together) actually had Jimmy Mac of GbV fame IIRC
