Because i mean seriously, right in damon's face. Nothing he could do about it, can argue with that. Does anyone else feel that Damon kinda looks like a monkey?

The only thing better would've been if Damon got hurt trying to catch something out there.

We need to talk about how sick Matt Murton is.

This mofo would be in the running for rookie of the year if not for the call up last year.

papi going yard to center in that wind against a guy who was aquired specifically to face him is the nastiest thing i have ever seen. probably won't be talked about forever, but maybe the most impressive home run i have ever seen hit at fenway.

people should have thrown shaving razors at Damon like they threw needles at Bonds. All in all, very satisfied with the game. Anxious to see beckett throwing some heat tomorrow too.

I think the anger at Damon says more about how seriously people take their sports than anything about Damon.

Sure he says moronic things to the press and sure he verges on midly retarded most of the time, but the players, staff and stadium crew all still like him and say he's a fun and good guy.

Don't know if that's true or not, but Papi says he's like his little brother. Retarded little brother, but still.

Since he seems to still be on relatively good terms with the Sox, i doubt there was any sort of falling out, which pretty much leads me to believe that the reason he left was purely financial...that irks me a little. Yeah Damon's playing in the outfield for the Yankees...right about where Papi hit that homer. :D

I don't see how a Red Sox fan can be mad at him for taking the money, when he left KC/Oakland beforehand. You also have had Manny Ramirez demanding a trade several times in the last year. It's not like the Red Sox are a small market team. They buy just as many players as the Yankees do, Manny, Pedro and Curt Schilling, etc.
I also don't see the hatred for Pedro and Clemens that I have with Damon so far.

kc and oakland made no attempt to keep him. those teams are very selective about the few players that they sign to long term deals with serious money involved. and while the red sox do have an enormous payroll, as you have seen from their negotiations with johnny, pedro, arod, and big papi, they don't just pay whatever it takes to sign a player, as the yankees do. and of the 3 players you named, the current sox brass signed only 1, and would never have gotten involved with manny for 10 years and sat back as the mets overpaid pedro.

onto the reason that johnny is a scumbag... boston elevated johnny to superstar status. that guy was in the league forever before he showed up, but sox fans embraced him in a way that other cities hadn't. he was the face of the franchise even though he was not the most important player in the lineup. if you had been in or around fenway at any point during his tenure, you would know what i am talking about. he was on and on for his last 2 years in boston about how badly he wanted to sign there again, but when the yankees threw 3 mil/year more than the sox at him, he signed immediately without giving the sox a legit chance to counter, making him the first player of any consequence to go directly to the yanks from the sox since the babe. then he has the balls to go on some crazy campaign to let the fans know how sensitive he is and he doesn't want the boston fans to hate him. poor johnny! and of course, there is the simple fact that johnny would not be the superstar that he is if boston had forced a no long hair, no facial hair policy on him and that's a fact. you can dispute it if you would like, but you are dead wrong if you think otherwise.

look at the contract papi signed. 12mil/year which is well below his market value. no nonsense, no whining. the guy wanted to play in boston so he signed for what they are willing to pay.

as for pedro, the sox didn't want to sign him for 4 years, so he left. the sox were not making a competitive offer. clemens was having a personal dispute with the general manager when he left and he still had the decency to stop in toronto before new york.

lastly, if you aren't from boston, you will never understand the importance of baseball and what the yankees represent to us, particularly if your frame of referece is kc or oakland. the sox generate that payroll because they are supported unconditionally even in the lean years. boston is not in a market that is significantly bigger then many of those they outpay around the league. that's why we are in your ballpark when the sox roll into town. because we like the sox better than you like anything.

so, i hope i answered your question.

I find that kind of strange also, but i think that the biggest issue is where damon went to go play. I believe the money thing became an issue because of the way they promoted that they were just a "bunch of idiots", suggesting that the team superceded financial gain. I would assume that if the Sox took a high profile character from the Yankees, the reaction would be similar, say if A-rod came to play for the Sox.

And well put Thrillhouse.

You're right I'll never understand the Yankees/Red Sox Hatred and baseball in general. I'm used to College Football and the rivalry that was Nebraska-Oklahoma before the formation of the Big 12. There was never hate between those schools, just respect mixed with resentment.
You wanted the other team at its best, so you could beat the best.

Awesome.

As for the rivalry thing, Yankees fans, being from New York, hate *everything*.

The cheer you'd get from the bleachers:

Yankees
Baseball
Umpires Suck
Boston Sucks
Mets Suck
<visiting team> Sucks
Everything Sucks
Hooraayyyyyyyyy

Well, it's not that I don't like them its just:

a) I know nothing about sports

and

b) even with my pathetic sports knowledge I know that as a Montrealer I'm not supposed to root for the Toronto team.

You're damn lucky he agreed to sign for that. I really don't get the sox...name a major sox player who left the team recently who didn't do so with at least some acrimony. Clemens, Garciaparra, Martinez, Damon, Boggs, etc.

You guys love your players while they are a redsox but you treat a lot of them like shit come contract time and heaven forbid that they even consider signing elsewhere if someone shows they genuinely value them. Who can seriously blame damon for taking $3MM/year more from the yankees. He wanted to sign with boston...that's a lot less to take though for a home town preference. Is Damon worth the extra $3MM, probably not in my judgement but I wouldn't blame him for taking it.
