Anyone else pick up the reissue of "First Thought Best Thought"?

I'm only on the first track but I love it already.

The more I hear from this guy the more I'm thoroughly inspired.

Yes, he may be both gay and dead, but I truly love him.

I bought this CD at Other the other day. Listened to it in the van, and was really impressed, though that was the wrong locale to listen to it. I think I'll smoke a joint and preview it tonight. Fucking love Arthur Russell. I'm a fag hag.

I love the hell out of that Soul Jazz album. I think its called "World of Arthur Russell" or something like that. I have two others though that aren't nearly as good and that scared me away from automatically picking this new reissue up. Its really good though?

I prefer Calling Out of Context and World Of Echo to the Soul Jazz bit. This one is way more instrumental. Get it for sure.

Same here.

The SoulJazz one is his more disco stuff, whereas the above-mentioned are more veiled and experimental. So if you like the disco the new one might not be your thing. It is however very beautifulllllllllllllll. It's more "20th century composer-style" than his other stuff.

Sounds like I should revisit "World of Echo". The Soul Jazz one was my introduction to him so I was expecting more of the same when I got "World of Echo" and was very disappointed and mostly bored by it. I should revisit with an open mind now that I know what its like and see if I'll grow to like it before buying anything else I guess.

"Calling Out of Context" is middle left on the "World of Echo"<---|--->"World of ... " spectrum. Maybe you'd take it even better. "World of Echo" was my introduction, and it blew me away.

"First thought/Best Thought" is blowing me away. It's in an other spectrum altogether.

Just d/l'd COOC---damn. This is great. Thanks polly6, et. al., for bringing this to my attention.
