'long distance' was my best guess.

fag hag = woman who spends most of her time hanging out with gay boys.

Some would add other more negative attributes such as:
- she's straight but doesn't date guys out of fear or whatever and prefers the company of gay boys
- she has many many cats
- loves musicals
- she might be "unattractive"
- at the extreme: she is in love with a gay boy and hopes to "turn him straight", etc. etc....

But this last list of things is kind of bullshit. I jokingly call myself a fag hag because many of my close friends are gay boys and I used to spend more of my time hanging out with my friend Gordon than with my bf at the time. I also know a lot of bi/lesbian girls who called themselves "fag hags" too as more of a way of saying you are an appreciator of gay boys.

Oh... perfect example: Grace and whats-her-name on Will & Grace.

Karen?
I agree with you polly... I spent most of my weekend with gay boys, and I think the negative traits you listed are bullshit, as you said (for me, 1-I'm married, 2- I have 2 dogs, no cats, 3- not necessarily a lover of musicals per se, 4- don't consider myself unattractive, and 5- my husband is most definitely not gay). One of the things I personally like about hanging out with gay boys is that:

(a) they appreciate a good-looking guy
(b) they are very protective of their female friends
(c) they typically (certainly not always) appreciate fashion
(d) they will go dancing with you
(e) they dish and bitch like a girl, sometimes without all the drama that goes along with being a girl. (again, not always the case, but with my gay friends, this is true)

Yes, that's it, Karen.

Yeah, I don't really fit the negative fag hag stereotype either. You're right about the above though. It just happens that a large percentage of the people I meet, think are cool and become friends with happen to be gay (both male & female). I guess I'm a dyke-hag too. That's how the cookie crumbles.

Oh I feel all fuzzy warm now.

I guess I should own up to being a 70 year old Czech taxi driver now.
