i just picked this up, i think because i remembered katie recommending it in the first place. it's WAY poppier than i remember them from their earlier stuff so far, in a good way. i mean, it's still light years away from pop, so i think that that shins comparrison is prettyfar off, but that's that. so i guess that this is a bump.

They're coming into town soon -- I wonder if they're worth seeing live.

You can sell me on the Veils while you're at it. Where does the love come for these startlingly mediocre folks?

Alternately, justify Keane, if you think you can.

<--- disclaimer: tipsy

The Veils are ok. Mainly for "the tide that left" which is a wonderful song. The rest of the album is meh.

Keane? I love their album. Didn't think I would but I absolutely love it. Some compare it to Coldplay but better but I think the Coldplay comparison is downright cruel. Keane's singer has this amazing voice that sometimes echoes Freddie Mercury in some songs. And being a huge Queen fan since childhood I love it.

The Veils are a great mix CD band - fine one song at a time, but more than that and it wears thin.
I've got "The Leaver Dance" on my latest mix, Sen.'s got "The Tide That Left and Never Came Back" on his latest and I'd wager that "More Heat Than Light" is on a couple floating out there.

It's amazing the way support for them just vanished. One day they're in everyone's top 5 and then the bottom fell out almost all at once.

Can't do anything for Keane, though. I don't get it.

The tide that left is clearly the standout of the album, but I disagree that buying the album is worthwhile on those grounds. There are some seriously bad lyrics on that disc. Still, nice to know that you don't like them for their crap songs I guess. It's a matter of weights rather than of seeing some virtue I'm blind to.

Ditto Keane: sure the voice is fine, but the songs bite (for me etc).

<--- still tipsy, [pardon bluntness or lack of finesse.
