Or "Modem's Paranoid Minute"...

I am convinced that the upcoming new version of Windows is going to be frought with things running in the background, collecting and cataloguing info about you and sending reports back (to Microsoft, who has a silent partnership with Homeland Security)... more than ever before, without your permission.

They should call it MS Windows Patriot.

this wouldn't surprise me at all. the unwillingness of telecom companies to stand up to warrantless wiretapping and yahoo turning in chinese dissidents does not give me much faith in online privacy.

stuff like this is not easy to hide. people who know pay attention to this. people knew about itunes sending back information if you didnt close that mini-store thing on the bottom of the window, so i have no reason to suspect that if something is going on in the background of the operating system someone wont figure out whats happening. also to this point no one running the betas of vista has noticed anything not on the level as far as weird sent data packets over the internet from their computers are concerned.

iirc, leaving the mini-store open would mean that itunes sends information to apple which then would tailor the suggestions to the music you listen to.

as far as linux is concerned, its pretty damn good right now, and as soon as they build wireless networking into the kernel it will be irresistible.
