I always hear moments of Jeff Buckley in his voice. I don't know Rufus enough to compare. Maybe so though.
I played Jeff Buckley for the first time to a friend of mine and he noted that Buckley's voice sounded like Andrew Bird's. I guess I see it, but its hard for me because little compares to Buckley's voice.

I agree with you completely. That's why I said moments because I don't think it's a good qualifier of Andrew Bird. I just hear it sometimes. One of the moments is in the first few lines of Fatal Flower Garden, "It rained, it poured, it rained so hard all day". I think that little section reminds me of Buckley's lilac song a little bit or something. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Yeah. I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. Not that they're more than pieces of meat, but about the vibratto thing. In my example, Andrew Bird doesn't even use vibratto in that section. AND...Andrea Bocelli has vibratto but I don't think that he and Buckley sound alike. oo oo oooo. Dude from Muse has an ungodly amount of vibratto and I don't think that he sounds like Buckley either.

So there.

I want to wear his scarf and birth his babies.

In the midst of a hissy fit at Intonation Fest last year, Andrew and his too-cute girlfriend walked in front of me. Because I was too wrapped up in being a c*nt, I missed my opportunity to say hello.

"Measuring Cups" off Swimming Hour is probably my absolute favorite AB song. That whole album is pure goodness.

As for Andrew vs. Rufus, I'd say Rufus has the upper hand. Perhaps not recorded, but live, most definitely. When I saw Rufus back in '02, I walked out of his show exhausted. He puts on an excellent performance.

Fun Rufus story: We used to book his aunt Sloan, so when Rufus, Martha and the awful Teddy Thompson (Rich & Linda's boy) rolled through town, we got free tickets and backstage passes. We talked to Rufus for a while and at the end of a story about his tour, he looked at us and said, "So, where can I do a little dancing?" and shook his ass. We directed him to Berlin (gay dance club across the street) and he was pleased as punch. In the background, Teddy was sulking and Martha was carrying three bottles of tequila out to the tour bus. The Wainwrights are awesome.

In fact, Teddy's definitely the straight Rufus Wainwright.

Rufus is extremely hit or miss live.

It all depends on his time of the month.

No, but seriously, he's inconsistently great.

They put on a good show, way back when. I think I caught them in Athens, or at least part of a show. I had a roommate who was gay for them.

But yeah, that whole revival thing didn't have much gas in it.

That older guy who played drums with us for a little bit (the guy who lived in Family Housing with the pipe collection) was really into them too, right? I seem to remember him playing me some of their stuff that was pretty good.

naw...you took a used copy out of circulation so that the next person has to buy a new one. That's the way I like to think of it.

<----probably bought it used also
