well. manager yells at me in public, year and 8 month employment and no pay raise, and as of late they've forgotten i'm a human and need a break to eat food.

I just came home from work. I'm a checkout chick too (that's assuming you are one). This morning, just before I'm about to walk out the door, my boss calls me up to tell me today is 'Country Day' and we all have to dress up in a country-esque way. I was contemplating quitting as soon as she told me, but I didn't and I made it through my entire shift wearing a chequered flannelette shirt and a straw hat (hats are compulsory [yes, a hat inside]). Not only do they forget to let me eat sometimes, they don't let me go to the toilet before 6 hours. I'm thinking of bringing a portable toilet into my register/area. Being a checkout chick just isn't easy.

Seriously? That's ridiculous. Have you had to sign a new workplace agreement with those conditions, cos if you haven't, I'd be doing a little investigation and calling bullshit on your managers. Minimum wage is not worth that crap - and that's without even mentioning the country day get up

Well I'm just a casual employee so I guess they figured that they can do whatever they like with me. Casual employees get paid more than part-time I think, so they have to take revenge on us somehow. I don't often have shifts longer than 6 hours but when I do, I just don't talk to the customers, so I don't get thirsty, so i don't have to drink water --> the whole not having to go to the toilet issue. I guess if I started crying they'd let me.

I realize this thread was posted last night, but I keep reading the title as "I should go to work tomorrow".

It's a sign.

Still sounds dodgy to me. Since I'm still at uni I've only ever worked as a casual too, and I'm sure there's a limit of something like 4 hrs before you have to be given a break - or at least there was before Howard had his way with IR.

Don't really know the details though because all my employers have been nice people, probably something to do with the fact I haven't worked for a big company

i called out today!

i've decided not to take the raise because i'd still be as unhappy as before. and sacrificing happiness for money is not what i'd want to do.

just from working at this grocery store, i have learned big companies suck.
they cut your hours so that they can put more money in their pockets, refrain from raises so they can add cash to their bonuses. it's annoying.
last sunday was our busiest day of the week, like every sunday, and they had 2 cashiers on register all night because "that's all they had" and while i wouldn't be surprised that it's all they had because so many people have gotten fed up and quit, i'm sure they could have found SOMEBODY... rather than leaving myself and one other on the register all night.

yeah. definitely leaving.

i would have sucked it up and just gone in to get some money. if you think work is tough or your questioning the morals of a "big company," wait until you escape your teens.

i sucked it up yesterday and got some money. it's not like i skipped to sit at home and do nothing. i have projects for school that are due tomorrow that i wouldn't have time to do if i went to work.

plus, i work tomorrow, the new job tuesday, present job wednesday and thursday. that money will suit me fine.

somthing similar happened to an aquaintance.
she told her boss (of 2 weeks) that she couldn't take it anymore and that he'd have to find someone else for the position and he never really responded and treated her like she never said it at all.
i think she's still working there which i really don't get.

he's taking on my older brothers complete personality. and he acts like a music guru, and sure he's 11 so he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about but it annoys the hell out of me.

"everything you listen to is crap, elizabeth" (then he goes to play poison the well, disturbed, my chemical romance and avenged sevenfold)

He never gave it back, either.

In other news, I just turned 12.
