Now that my semester is winding down, I have three band projects that I am working on - the first group is called "Song of the Gun", and is my guitarist Dave's most recent band/album. RIYL: Wire, Pinback, motown, American Analog Set, Pixies, Depeche Mode, Pedro, and Yngwie all mushed together? I dunno. All I know is that hearing the final album that's going out to get pressed right now sounds sa-wheet. Maybe a tour in December. Next is "The F Test", a garage-hard rock-screamy-feedbacky thing of mine, which I named after Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), because I am a huge dork. Finally, I may get a chance to audition for Knife in the Water, because their bassist Kiki just moved to NYC.

Hopefully I'll be playing out in a month or two, and then hopefully out of Austin soon after that. Nice to be back in the saddle after five years on ice.

What about youse guys? PAP tour? HoP tour? Phil's massive solo career? McCaputo takes over the world? I am curious.

Sending the 3/5 master off to press hopefully at the end of this week, and we have a festival with PAP, HoP and Phil (playing with Graham Cousens) all playing the same night coming up next month:

the pilots basically took march off of because of my getting married. We have shows scheduled in chicago:

5/26 - Beat Kitchen w/ Lowry (Brooklyn) and The Bowmans (NYC)
6/3 - SK fest
6/11 - Chicago Ribfest

and more TBD and hopefully touring in the fall. our current drummer is leaving us at the end of june which sucks bad but we've had a couple rehearsals w/ a new guy and he's great. so, outside of the shows, we're trying to record at least an EP with our current drummer before he leaves.

It's just a shame that the country rock project fell through, because this stache would totally fit with it. If KITW takes me, I may die of pleasure.

oh yeah, and I finally think I have the go-ahead to reissue the entire Green back catalog, which should be a big boost for the label overseas (particularly in Holland)

Maybe it'll be time for another Obner musician mix cd by the end of the summer - and I still want us to think about an Obner day show next SXSW.

I would be very interested in this. I am looking to try and record a couple of songs that I am currently working on. THey'd be pretty simple and probably not up to the standards that some of the actual obner bands would have, but if I would be able to I'd like to submit something to that.

i played an open mic last night, it was fun.

i'm still chugging along with fishstick, working on material to go into a real studio for the fisrt time.

i'm also playing harmonica/back up guitar/harmony with a kick ass band called Six Pack Creek. Lots of traditional songs mixed with our songs in a traditional style.

good times.
and on a semi related note, i sold 5 paintings in the last two days.

Actually I love the first two cars albums, and obviously they're a big influence in my songwriting. I hated what the Cars became when Robert John "Mutt" Lange got a hold of them...

Hospital Grade is still slaving away on our next CD. All of the drum tracks are down, all of the bass (except for 2 songs that have to be redone), and most of my "clean" guitars are done. We've kind of been taking a little break because we ran out of money :(

In the meantime, though, I am happy to say that we will be playing some shows in the U.S. this month, and the opportunity for some fellow obners to come out and say hello is greater than ever before:

May 25 Nashua, NH - Drifters
May 26 Cambridge, MA - The Middle East
May 27 Brooklyn, NY - Third Rail

http://www.myspace.com/hospitalgrade
http://www.hospitalgrade.net

On a side note - i've been working on demos for my own thing in my spare time:

http://www.myspace.com/penny_blacks

and playing bass on and off with a friend's band:
