I was sure you did. the problem is that about half of rock lyrics can be interpreted as trippy if you like.

aside from the fact that Lennon, Martin (especially) and the rest of the band denies it. why the hell else would they? I mean, it was the Beatles for crying out loud..

What about these lyrics isn't trippy?

I mean for chrissakes it's on Sgt. Peppers along with A Day in the Life which was banned from play by the BBC for the lyric "I'd love to turn you on", because of it's double meaning sexually and in the drug culture.

Why would they say, oh yeah, this song is about LSD, please ban this song too?

They were laughing about it the whole time, and they're still laughing about it now.

For your pleasure:

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
and she's gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
that grow so incredibly high

Newspaper taxies appear on the shores
Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
and you're gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

Picture yourself on a train in a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

To further complicate things, what about...

Eight Miles High?

Drug song or just the Byrds writing about their first trip to Great Britain?

The freaks figured Fogerty had finally given in and had a toke. He's always maintained it's just a goofy song for his kid.

"The idea that 'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds' stands for LSD is rubbish. John wasn't like that and people credit him with too much subtlety. He liked to shock people, and if he'd really wanted to write about drugs he would have done it straight out." --George Martin

whatever. this is old.

Also, 19th Nervous Breakdown. With lyrics like "On our first trip I tried so hard to rearrange your mind"

Also, Brown Sugar, which is a double entedre between the original title "Black Pussy" and a euphamism for Big H.

I also forgot to mention "Legend of a Mind," which is not only about drugs, it's about THE drug guru: Timothy Leary.

...gettin' the idea yet? After maybe Spiritualized, Sabbath is probably the single most frequent use of drugs as subject matter for their songs.
