I don't either.

I've always heard that "Blue" and "Court and Spark" are her best.

I know you can pick up "Blue" at most Best Buys or Tower Records for around $9.99 as a Super Saver cd or something.

Me too. A lot of people agree with that.

These are the only two I have and will play them when I've woken up too early and my head cannot tolerate something other than the sound of angels singing. That being said, I don't play them that often.

I can't figure out what the problem is.

Exactly. I guess I'm "supposed" to like her. But the fact is, I don't, and probably never, ever will.

Blue is a fantastic album. I had Court & Spark for a while & all it ever made me do was put Blue back on.

Blue will give you your entire Joni Mitchell "essentials" IMHO.

Well there was that night in 1970 off of Washington Blvd. in Venice when the Owsley had finally started to wear off and I realized, you know, that was probably Joni Mitchell.... mercifully, the rash did go away.

In order:
For the Roses
Court and Spark
Blue
Ladies of the Canyon

But if it's the jazzy, not folk, side that appeals...

Don Juan's Reckless Daughter
Hissing of Summer Lawns

Or even recently... Night Ride Home is a very easy work to get to know and like.

Joni Mitchell for me supercedes pop or rock music... she is like Billie Holiday... for both, I will go 6-8 years without choosing to listen... but when I start I need to listen to everything...

Harry's dead on.

But start with blue.

In addition to everything everyone else here loves, I also love Miles of Aisles, and Travelogue was really good too.

So there you go.

Buy Blue, a case of beer, a couple bottles of wine, some gin, a carton of smokes, and put that fucker on repeat till all your toxic comestibles are consumed.
