i read a great article on the bbc on this. basically they're are revolutionizing. ps3 is just ps2 but faster and fancier. xbox just sucks.

nintendo is changing gaming yet again, hoping to make it more accessible to everybody. they want gaming to come to the point where you bust out your Wii at a family party instead of a deck of cards. i don't know if it will quite come to that, but it's a good idea (from them.)

the other thing is that the Wii will be basically half the price of the PS3. Who's going to shell out for the Sony shit when this is half as much? Not me, and I know there are plenty of other cheap bastards out there.

Nintendo is the king of the video games industry and while Sony made a strong play, it's all cyclical and is coming back back to the nintendojo.

(My little brother loves this shit and it's basically all I talk to him about. He's taking Japanese and is probably going to end up working in the industry.)

The fact that you could bust this out at a party is what really impresses me. Just imagine being hammered and playing this shit. Sounds fun.

I've had 360 since December and am rather bored with it and the games.

not to be a dick, but kind of a foolish purchase in my opinion. should have waited. remember dreamcast?

Dreamcast had a few gems, but I wouldn't compare 360 to a Sega product. The Live feature of Xbox is really brilliant in my opinion, although right now that is all that they got going. We can only hope they have some amazing titles coming in the near future.

Is PS3 really going to be $599? it can't be!

btw...24 for ps2 is fantastic if you dig the show!

The Wii was the smash of E3 ( the big annual game convention ) from what I've heard.

If that controller works like Nintendo sez it does ( & reports so far make it sound like that's the case ) , this thing could be HUGE. This could be the first "new" console I buy since the Dreamcast ( which I actually bought for $50 in its last throes ) .

As much as I really can't afford to invest anymore time and money in new video games, I pretty much have to get this.

Nintendo has had really mixed results with "party" games in the past, but I think they can pull this off. It would be great if multiplayer video games were taken away from total dork territory (I'm saying this because of the amount of time commitment and skill it takes to play games like Halo and most other popular online games and multiplayer games) and bring it to more casual players. So far good games that "anyone" can play have been kind of a minority. Hopefully that will change.

There's gonna be a "Wii Sports" game with several different games on it. I know the "tennis" game can be played by 4 people at once - you use the controller like a racquet.

I saw the demo for Red Storm (or was it Red Dragon? I forgot) with this, using the controller to aim one's shotgun and then use it for swordplay... yeah, it looked geeky. But it also looked fun as hell. :D

i don't really see any support for this. nintendo is NOT king of the console or handheld market (in terms of latest-generation market share) and hasn't been since the Super Nintendo. The Wii has some stuff going for it, but it's going to appeal to people who remember playing NES as kids and smaller children mostly, whereas the lion's share of the game-buying public are 17-34yr old dudes who want violence and sports, two things Nintendo has never delivered well. The console industry is also not cyclical - the whole history is a period of brief dominance followed by a slow (or rapid) descent into obscurity or bankruptcy. Atari, Intellivision, Nintendo, Sega... Nintendo's been around longer than most, but I think it's way too early to say they're positioned to beat Sony or MS in this round. If they do, I'll call it a comeback.

Way to rain on Nintendo's parade, but Haq is speaking the truth. Nintendo's goal is to bring people that usually don't go near games into this cool, but yes, dorky world. If that controller works like they say it will, then they could contend with PS3. Their numbers will never surpass Sony's though. Cool things ahead...

I don't think he was referring to market share when he called Nintendo the "king". I think it had more to do with a consistent quality/longevity kind of thing.

I don't think it's going to be that much. $399 at the most, I bet.

Nope, they've announced the prices as $499 and $599. You're getting a lot for your money, but it'll still be hard for some people to swallow considering you could buy a 360 and a Wii for that.

I like my x-box. Will probably get a 360 as well.

Number one reason I sold my PS2 and bought a Gamecube.

I could never find a single game I wanted to play on the Playstation besides the Final Fantasys and the odd wrestling game.

You just worry about organizing a killer slumber party, complete with pillow fights and girl-girl kissing.

GoldenEye 007 on N64 is still the best first person shooter of all time, in my opinion.

My friends were obsessed with that. Whenever they played, I read and suggested we play Mario Party instead.

I saw a report the other day that hinted that with the Wii, Nintendo will start to tackle this problem - ie, there's gonna be some games with significant bloodshed in 'em, & they're working on a Madden game where you'll be making passing motions with the controller.
