Brilliant, Phil...thanks a bunch. After hearing about this guy on the board, I haven't come across him in any CD store recently. Will listen later tonight.

Cool, lemme know what you think.

I thought the almost the whole thing was instantly accessible, i can't speak for billy... other friends i've turned on say that whatever didn't grab them at first grew on them later.

I really like this too. Love how he recorded it all himself, there are a couple tracks that you can here dogs barking in the background. Adds to the charm.

Oh, thanks so much. The only track I've heard is 'River Song' and I wanted to make sure it's as good as anything Guster's done before I hunt it down.

Much much better than guster could ever hope to be. River Song is the one billy doesn't like. I like it, but it is one of the weaker songs on the album. That is to say, the album is strong, like bull.

It was instantly accessible for me as well but it continued to grow for me over the first six months. I'd be interested in seeing peoples' thoughts as well after they've listened a few times.

And for the record, I don't really dislike the River Song (although I do dislike the chorus), I just think its by far the weakest song on the album.

"Dancing Partner" brings a tear to my eye every damn time.
Yeah, this is a brilliant album that Billy G turned me on to, also. Too bad it isn't more readily available.

Ha ha, tommy.

I'm sure todd means that its not available in his neighborhood record store...but sometimes I wonder what world some of you guys live in though. It took me 10 seconds to search online and find that notlame.com stocks it. I know he sells it from his website also. I'm sure there are other etailers that stock it.

Unless I'm wrong and most of you are twelve years old, I'd assume people might have credit cards and be capable of buying things online. People seem to always complain about not being able to find stuff though. I don't really get it.

You'd get it if you had to contend with a border and the subsequent shipping and customs charges.

This is very, very true. I recently had a package open by Canada Customs that I bought on ebay (The Wire dvd set). The tax is bad enough, but the indignity is the "handling" fee (i.e. the ripping open of the package) for $5. Fortunately that doesn't happen too often.

Is it much different going the other way? I order from Alien8 Recordings a bunch (located in Montreal) and never have problems with shipping or customs charges. Same with when I ordered Brigadoon last year from Vancouver.

I'm kind of an old fucker in that I hate buying things online.
It's not that I don't trust it, it's that I prefer flipping through the stacks.
So yeah, maybe it's time that I start emerging from my prematurely codgerish shell and come to accept the fact that I will be buying more stuff from the internet.

Too bad there isn't a web site that gives you that same, comforting derisive look that the snooty record store clerks do when you buy something they don't approve of. Oh, how I'll miss that!

Got an opinion yet?

I need some notice so I can put a request in with Phil to slap some sense into you if you don't love it yet.

np: Charlie Mingus "Tijuana Moods"

Put that request in, then. Because after 1 listen, it was inching its way towards the Forgotten file. I'll try harder.
