Do any of you "live" with an album or a few albums once you get them? Like instead of a daily rotation, more of a weekly rotation? I used to have my dashboard rotation of jewel cases sliding around in my truck, but I'm driving alot less.

This is why JAIL rock is so important to me: for me to really like and album I have to be able to drive to it, or monger to it...like wallowing in myown filth and depression monger to it.

but, for me to LISTEN to it, its gotta be hearable, too, which is prolly why many think I have simple tastes.

Up until I had kids, I listened. Music was a constant, throughout nearly every hour of my life.

But that's a bit hard to do with a family. Occasionally, still, with headphones, mostly late at night. The rest of the time it's hearing and trying to filter through the din.

I know where you're going and I think a lot of albums would reveal themselves to me quicker if I listened more actively. But the bottom line is I don't really have that much time to really focus on the music. I'm almost always multi-tasking when listening to music -- working, reading, driving, or mongering. I do try to listen to things loud when my environment so permits so that the music's more nuisanced elements is more likely to permeate my thick skull.

This is all true. I try my best and I think the artist, if you like their music, deserves that attention. And, as I have said before I usually discover some network of why I like some artists because of similar works or at least a close degree of separation reflected in the liner notes including participating musicians, producers, or even mentioned influences. Does that make sense? Seems a bit wordy, but I am not so clear headed at the moment.

I am trying this with my recent pickups and like-minded albums in my collection and failing pretty miserably at it. I used to actively listen a lot more when I was younger but now I'm in more of billy g's camp.

I think active listening can really add appreciation for certain artists because so much is going on (Roni Size) and absolutely destroy others simply because too much is going on (David S Ware).

And Jaco's birthday concert is ace.

I'd say I often have trouble not listening. I have trouble holding a conversation if music is on---I'll be all: "Oh wait wait... this part is awesome" to whomever I'm talking to.
