I wasn't planning on seeing this ever, but after all the hype you'd think it would be doing a little better than this:

Yeah, I heard on the radio today that they've avoided releasing this movie to critics in order to stop the terrible reviews from flowing in. It's one I definately won't be seeing at the theater, but then again I haven't read the book either.

Yeah, they haven't been pretty, especially when your lead man is described as a 'bloated zombie'. I wonder how many crappy books have actually been developed into good movies though.

When Hanks was on Letterman, they played a clip. The entire clip was just him and Audrey in a car racing backwards through busy traffic.

Not a hard sell for what I thought was a mystery/drama type movie.

You can hear the religious conservative community breathing a collective sigh of relief. But I'm sure a diphole or 2 will gather round the box office with picket signs.

That's all you need to know right there. It is so rare this happens & it's usually films with Rob Schneider. For a film with this many expectations to have this happen. Wow. Sony is gonna samurai some heads for this.

There's mad hype for this movie right now. It doesn't matter what the reviews of this are, dumb people who don't read will still go out and shell out their ten bucks for this this because it's being billed as the drama movie to see this summer.

<---- Thought the book was pretty good but didn't like the ending.

book was amusing enough. stupid constant cliffhangers, interesting (semi)factual topics like theholy grail, but itjust sucked. read itin 6 hours. thought themovie would begood asit seems suited to be afilm. didn't even feel like abook asiread it, felt like afilm.

at anyrate, not surprised that it is so weak. it's bullshit forbullshit people.

What gauchebag said. Disappointed (as I assumed Brown's style was purposely done for easier movie adaptation) but not surprised.

Hollywood Blockbuster Movie Is Crap

What a headline!

People who go to the cinema are dumb as doorknobs.

Who else would pay massively overinflated prices for food and drink then sit in the dark to watch about 40 minutes of adverts at roughly 167 decibles, before sitting for an other 2 hours to watch an insultingly bad plot/script with fanny faced cunt Tom Hanks forty foot gurn staring at them at the end of the room.

Tinder them with producers, actors, promotional cardboard cut outs and fat noisey children and burn every one of them down to the ground. I want to see columns of black smoke across the city like it was fucking Kursk!

A ton of people who usually don't read picked up this book. The ones I know seem pretty pleased with themselves for actually reading something - they'll still go regardless how horrible it is.

I've never read it but my wife and father-in-law say it's engrossing and entertaining for a guy who's a crappy writer and terrible at character development.

I mean it's not brilliant. But it IS fun to read. And that's why it sold well.

The guy took an interesting and controversial topic(religion) and crafted a preposterous story out of it.

But it was enjoyable. I read a lot of different books and I did find this an easy read.

I always said I wouldn't see the movie based on it. Then I changed my mind and now after reading the reviews(and some of them gave a lot away) I'm not sure if I want to see it now. But husband wants to see it so I think we're going this weekend anyways.

I do think it'll end up with a huge box office this weekend, but it will quickly die after that if word of mouth gets out that it's bad.

(by the way, is other book Angels & Demons is actually a better book)

Y'all know this thread makes everyone in it (save Frosty and Charli, kinda) sound like Comic Book Guy.

It's not going to be high art, but who the fuck cares? "Dumb People" will see anything with Tom Hanks, some hot French chick and Ron Howard directing...

What idiots. Wanting to be entertained. Personally, I wish anyone who had read teh book would be killed, so only the smart and cultured would be left over

(And I haven't read the book, will probably see the movie, and definitely think some people need a big dose of getting overthemselves)

I haven't read the book but am I wrong in thinking that it's basically Harry Potter for adults?

With all the "I don't usually read but I read this" quotes and the movie coming so soon after the book being released, it gets that vibe.

But this book wasn't dumb, it just wasn't very good. I could give a fuck what people read or listen to, I don't want people to read my science books to better themselves: It just wasn't very good and I read and enjoy LOTS of dumb shit, music, movies, television and books. It had definite cliff-hangy type moments, but had one of the all time worst endings ever. I would imagine, like I said before, that a crappy book will generally end up being a crappy movie. I personally shuddered when I read the movie is over 2.5 hours long.

Loogs, I think you'll like this as much as Star Wars III.

I listened to the audiobook and was entertained... but I'm a sucker for religious history. It's not half as enjoyable as reading all the people who find it necessary to poo-poo anything remotely popular though.
