this was recommended to me by a friend. listening to it now. my initial better-not-weigh-in-before-i'm-sure-others-will-agree-with-me judgment is that he's a mix between decent acoustic singer/songwriter and adult contemporary pap.

He sort of reminds me Mason Jennings and M Ward, with John Mayer added to the mix.

He's got way more soul than any AC singer I can think of, but some of his lyrics make me want to die, and yeah, some of the songs are pretty vanilla.

Enjoy it. Seems like a hands-off approach to his first record, but things could go terribly wrong and he could end up racked next to the Little Willies in Starbucks.

Dude needs to stay low-key and get some decent musicians on his records and he'll be OK. Head down south, Ray, get you some Memphis Horns.

Wow. That's a great idea man. That would maybe even convince me to buy the next album. There's just something a little too...i don't know about him. I can describe it. Like too heart felt. But then sometimes I listen to Trouble and I'm like, "Damn, that is an AWESOME song".

But yeah, get some TN players behind him and it would be GOLD. A little southern balls behind him.

i do indeed like his voice. it reminds me of something. AMG says Van Morrison mixed with Tim Buckley, but that's not what i was thinking of...

You should download some of his live stuff including "You Got What I Want (So Why Don't You Give it to Me)", "Heaven is a Honky Tonk" and "Three More Days". That's more of what you're thinking than is on the disc.

I think it's good, but not great. It's alright Sunday morning music to have in the background.

I know Finch has an opinion on him . . .

Has Joe Cocker sued him for stealing "Feelin' Alright" yet?

True.

I like the guy, but this kinda stuff can veer dangerously close to songwriting exercises: here's my cocker song, here's my redding song, etc.

If he's going to roll with otis, he's going to have to lose some of the preciousness.
