I'm listening to / watching a KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic video podcast of Mike Andrews, who is an LA producer. I am liking this! Can anyone tell me more about this guy, and does anyone recommend his solo album?

np: as above . . .

In the early 1990's, he was lead singer of a band called the Origin that put out two albums, one of which is self-titled and one titled "Bend." Both are really really great acoustic pop albums with lots of rollicking piano. I'd highly recommend them but they might be hard to find now. I suppose I could ysi one of 'em if your interested.

He disappeared off the face of the earth after those two albums. I later found out he'd been playing guitar for the greyboy allstars and doing lots of soundtrack/score work. I've never heard any of it though.

He does a weekly residence at a club down the street from me now but he hasn't done it in some time. I'm anxious for him to start it up again. I'm a big fan, even if all I know is really the origin stuff.

Apparently he scored "Freaks and Geeks" as well as "Donnie Darko". Huh. Looks like he's been pretty busy as a producer. This Morning Becomes Eclectic spot is pretty great, I think that I might have to give his new album a try.

RIYL: Well-arranged pop / folk / singer-songwriter stuff.

The album is great, incidentally. It's like the Gilmour side of Pink Floyd, circa Atom Heart Mother. Download "Just A Thought."
