Alice in Chains Lock Down U.S. Club Dates

April 25, 2006

After a ten-year touring hiatus, you might expect the newly-reunited Alice in Chains to announce a big ol' "we're back rocking hard as ever tour." Well, you'd be wrong.

The band have announced it's U.S. tour dates, and they'll be hitting just five venues before heading off to Europe. As previously reported, Comes With a Fall vocalist William Duvall will take the mic for the duration of the trek, which hits cities in California, New York, Massachusetts, and Illinois. Tickets will be available exclusively through the band's website.

Alice in Chains tour dates:

5/18, West Hollywood, CA (The Roxy Theatre)
5/19, San Diego, CA (House of Blues)
5/21, Chicago, IL (Metro/Smart Bar)
5/22, Boston, MA (Avalon)
5/23, New York, NY (Bowery Ballrooom)

Give it up. I hate this shit. If you still want to play music, start a new band like the guys from Blind Melon and Sublime did.

This is just a slap in the face to your ex-band mate.

I never was really into them, but now I'd take them over listening to godsmack over and over like I do now at the record store.

A "Find the next Layne Staley" reality show would have been hilarious.

I remember when they toured a couple of years back with Jon Stevens from Noiseworks on vocals. They played at the carpark of the Entertainment and Convention Centre and about 25 people showed up. I drove past on the way to going somewhere or other.

A near-platinum album and two hit singles have resulted. J.D. Fortune makes a decent front man, if you like the idea of Richard Grieco replacing Johnny Depp.

That's all they played when I saw them. I was tempted to raise that point.

I think Jerry Cantrell did enough singing/playing & writing wise to justify touring as AIC with another singer and I'm usually totally against these things.

'Dirt' and 'Jar of Flies' are still some fucking frighteningly quality albums btw.

So a new band playing songs from member's old band is OK (and incidentally justifies those idiots who shout requests for Minor Threat songs at Fugazi shows) whereas a band staying as the same band without a key original member isn't OK?

Bullshit.

that's basically myposition. those guys still have a right toplaythose songs, they just shouldn't bill themselves as "sublime" or "alice inchains" because they just simply cannot bethat anymore. i'm okay withthem calling it Long Beach Dub All Stars instead....

the other thing is that LBDAS has released albums of original material. when didyouseethemlive? ifitwasshortly after brad's death they probably hadn't written new stuff.

It was, but why tour under another name without any (or much) original material? Bullshit.

How many original band members are in Wilco? Helmet? Guns 'N' Roses? Or is that OK because there's one main driver behind those bands (highly arguable for GnR) and that driver is still present in the band?

I agree with g-bag. If the Long Beach crew want to do a set of all Sublime stuff, fine. They're more or less doing covers then, anyway. And they're not using the old band's name to advertise or draw people into the shows.

It's a matter of respect to your old bandmate, in my opinion. If they were to continue calling themselves Sublime and touring under that moniker, it's like saying "you know what? Brad wasn't really that important to the band."
