I have a lady come once a month to do some deep cleaning. We keep hte place really straight but she does a much better job then we have time for. We pay her 30 bucks for about 3hours of work.

There's some kind of cleaning service here in TO called "Rent-a-Wife". Hilarious. (When I saw the flyer I was making jokes about other "services" they might provide). ew.

I live in a house with 3, count em, 3 boys. I'm used to keeping things clean from when I lived alone so I do a little more than my share sometimes, but there's NO FRICKIN WAY they're ever catch me cleaning the toilet. 3 boys? I think they can handle it.

In my household the maid is named "Guilt".

Part of me wishes we had a maid, but there's something about it that would make me feel weird.

I'm in this camp. I kind of enjoy cleaning the house. I dread doing it but once I start I do enjoy putting on some tunes and getting it done.

My parents had a maid that came a couple times a month when I was growing up. She basically cleaned the bathrooms, kitchen, and did laundry. Laundry included clothes and bed sheets and ironing.

I think they paid them around $50 every time she came.

I'd pay someone to come wash and iron my clothes.

We don't drink, but we usually clean our two bedroom apartment every sunday. She cleans the kitchen, because she doesn't like how I do it and I take care of the bathrooms and vacuuming. We both chip in to clean up the bedrooms on the days we do laundry.
She complains alot about always cleaning a messy kitchen, but refuses to switch jobs since she can't reach the top of the shower wall without climbing in the tub.
I do the dishes most of the time and cook dinner since she works evenings.
I'm surprised the cleaning services you get are that cheap, three woman cleaning your house for three hours seems like a good deal. That's a little more than we pay our part-time cleaning staff at work, but wages are lower here in Nebraska.

I'll agree that dog hair is a bitch... if I didn't have two shedding dogs, my house would probably stay cleaner a lot longer. With that said, no maid... my husband and I usually share those duties on the weekend.

I'm a white male from Alabama. I do this while watching THEM! clean my house ;)

On the reals, we have ol' Melba come through once every 2 weeks for $50...the wife works all day and day, and I'm only here 3 days/week. I don't wanna spend the little time I have with here cleaning.

exactly. and we happen to have two very long-haired pups too.

we've had a couple different cleaning companies come every now and then...nothing regular. usually before we have guests coming in or something. anyways, it seems around $25/hour is standard from our experiences.

I think maybe some of us have had to do more physical labor than some others throughout our lives. Yeah, prolly.

Shit, I worked in the potato fields when I was four.

Yeah . . . I mean . . . wow. I didn't have it as hard as frostingspoon as a kid, but one of my most keen childhood memories was the time that my mom lost (a black plastic trashbag full of) laundry at the laundrymat and wept - HARD - in the living room all evening. Later, someone called, saying that the people next to my mom accidentally went home with one of our bags, and we got it back okay.

Needless to say, we never had anyone cleaning our house other than us when I was growing up. I actually feel a little bit guilty that my mom didn't make us kids work harder to help her.

Tomorrow is going to be house cleaning binge day - rockling loud music, drinking homemade wine, working out in the garden on my melanoma tan, pausing for smoking/mongering breaks . . . hell, I'll probably do this on Sunday, too - I look forward to getting my house in order in time for band practice on Sunday.

I do all of the cooking and most of the cleaning since my fiance works so much and I dont mind the day to day shit like dishes and whatnot but I would like to have someone come in every week or two for the dusting and the bathrooms.

Thanks for the responses guys. Sounds like some of y'all are getting some pretty good deals.

I've always kinda found myself in a catch 22 situation...if my place was too dirty I didn't really want anyone else doing the cleaning I guess out of some embarassment that I was such a slob/pig and if it wasn't that dirty (since I am kinda a slob/pig) I didn't really see a big need to have someone come in and clean.

I think I'm coming around to the idea of hiring someone too. Probably get someone for once every two weeks. Weekends are too short to spend always running errands and cleaning. I can't remember the last weekend where I felt I had the bulk of the afternoon available for something enjoyable. I still need to get my place more organized though before I'd want to start someone.

haha. yeah, my mom is the kind of person (read: prsychopathic OCD clean freak) who straightens up before the maid comes.

though I suppose I think the same way.

We've brought in maids for periodic spot duty, and my wife pulls this shit EVERY TIME. If we've got to clean up for the maid, what the hell are we paying her for again?!?!? Of course, I'm the same lazy ass who (unsuccessfully) tries to rationalizes that it makes more sense to wait until after ALL the leaves have fallen from the trees before raking them.

Some old roommates and I had a maid service come once a month for like, $60, which worked out to $15/each. I dunno, it's not something I've ever missed.
