Lots of my favorite tracks from albums seem to be at the 3 spot:

Pulp - "Common People"
Yo La Tengo - "Sugarcube"
Air - "run"
Dylan - Johanna, Maggie's Farm, etc.
Bedhead - "Bedside Table"
TVOTR - "blind"
Flaming Lips - "The Sound of Failure"
Catherine Wheel - "Crank"
Catherine Wheel - "Black Metallic"
Built to Spill - "Carry the Zero"
Grandaddy - "go in the go-for-it"
Wrens - "surprise, honeycomb"
Portishead - "sour times"
Hum - "if you are to bloom"
Pavement - "stop breathin'"
Depeche Mode - "Personal Jesus"
B&S - "me and the major"
Burning Airlines - "Pacific 231"
Rocket from the Crypt - "on a rope"

And, I think you could make the case that "Welcome to the Terrordome" is the third proper song on Fear of a Black Planet. Of course, you also get "911 is a Joke" via the track order, so it's like, a win/win!

the rolling stones/sticky fingers - wild horses
joni mitchell/blue - little green
the clash/s-t - i'm so bored with the usa

Two that came quickly to mind and haven't been mentioned...

The Beat Elvis Costello

She Divines Water Camper Van Beethoven (so long as you consider Eye of Fatima parts 1 & 2 as the same song - I do).

Are you doofi doing this shit off the top of your heads? 'Cuz I can't even imagine having the extra memory space to commit to answering questions like "what's your favorite 3rd song on an album?"

(And don't get me wrong. I know it's important. That 3rd song is the deciding factor of whether the series is close at 2 - 1 or a blow-out at 3 - 0. So yeh, it's fuckin' PIVOTAL. )

So far today I've done this, 3 memes, 2 aborted blog postings, and I'm still waiting for work to pick-up.

Also, iTunes makes this really easy to suss out.

The jukebox at Gingerman Tavern here in Chicago is full of great third songs. I've paid $10, played every third song and had a pretty awesome mix.

I only need to list one:

"Teardrop" - Massive Attack

A little piece of heaven sandwiched between the dark awesomeness of "Risingson" and "Inertia Creeps". I'm suprised I (or anyone else) didn't think of it sooner.

On Allmusic, while I didn't see any soundtrack that had Teardrop, it is listed in the Guiness Book Of Records for the most used song in Chillout Complilations. So there.
