CD comes out tomorrow. I've heard a couple songs from this (including "Postcards from Italy," reviewed on Pitchfork last week), and I'm thinking about picking it up. Has anyone heard this? Thoughts?

I stick with Tangiers to satisfy my "need a band named after a middle-eastern/nort African city" fix.

I like Postcards from Italy.
Isn't somebody from Neutral Milk Hotel playing on this record or part of the band?

Yeah...something Barnes (I'm not up on the NMH band members :? ). This reminds me of NMH with the use of trumpets and other instruments to make interesting folky music with life. And his voice really sounds like Stephin Merrit and Jens Lekman.

So far the "i-know-other-bands-named-after-places" posts are outnumbering the real posts. I expect you people hear this and give me feedback stat! :x

Yeah, the bloggers really have been jizzing themselves (plus all thinking they found this band).

voice=Magnetic Fields/Jens Lekman
music=trumpets, other weird instruments, no guitars, kind of gypsyish (which sounds like it should be terrible, but it works in the songs i've heard)
There are also hints of Neutral Milk Hotel without guitars (and one of the band members was in NMH)

Track here: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/tracks/06-05-04.shtml

Resurrecting thread because I'm always late to the party...I've downloaded these three songs and find them seriously gorgeous:

Beirut - Postcards from Italy
http://www.beirutband.com/mp3/Beruit_Po ... 0Italy.mp3

Beirut - Mount Wroclai (Idle Days)
http://www.beirutband.com/mp3/Beirut_Mo ... dle%20Days).mp3

Beirut - Interior of a Dutch House
http://www.beirutband.com/mp3/Beirut_in ... 0house.mp3

I've got a $9 reward from Plan 9 and am seriously considering getting this. Has anyone bought this?

Based on your good mixing skills, I should say I trust ya, heh (though I'm really sold on the three songs I heard...I should stop being so cheap...well, I'm poor not cheap).

Yes, I got beirut from emusic. I guess it reminds me of Blue Nile somewhat. Sort of background-musicy.

Good though.
