I mean records where the 'biggest' song or lead/best single is the first track. I normally hate records like this. But:

Nick Drake - Pink Moon

Interpol's TOTBL has the best song first, but its not a single or biggest song or whatever

I would vehemently disagree with these suggestions. I don't think 'Tunnels' is the best off of Funeral and do think that 'White Light/White Heat' is the best song on the album. It's one of my favourite albums of all time, but you only need to hear 'The Gift' once. I didn't even load it on my ipod. 'Sister Ray' is a worthy consideration though.

I always thought it was weird to begin the album with this song. It feels like a perfect end-of-side-1 track to me--grand scaled, bit of a sonic departure, long fade out. It's like if Sticky Fingers opened with "Can't You Hear Me Knocking."

On Funeral? Nothing against 'Tunnels', which is a great opening track but I don't think it's the best on the album. I think 'Wake Up' or 'Rebellion' is better. Live, those songs just killed.

I guess it's the story I get tired of hearing on 'The Gift'. The music is good.

White Light/White Heat defines the band... other songs are good (especially Sister Ray) are good, but I think WL/WH is the best and is a perfect kick off, kick in the nuts, kick in the teeth... kinda opening.

I agree with H. Lump, Street Fightin' Man is the other great song on Beggars' Banquet and would be a perfect album opener.

Good to know about the space bar... I assumed it was a chemcial-dependency issue.
