I saw this CD for $1.99 in the used bin today but didn't know anything about it. Any good? Did I miss out? I noticed that Butch Vig and Joey Waronker play on it and that intrigued me, but not enough to buy the album.

What say ye, Obners?

I don't have that one but my best friend Keith says it's great.

Friends named Keith say "Yes."

I don't know Keith, for all I know he loves show tunes and Liza Minelli. What does this album sound like is what I want to know.

I faintly remember an Obner praising this recently...

I wish could buy a fuck for two dollars, Pedro.

The problem here is I buy these $2.00 albums in many multiples ALL THE TIME. It's not just like once a week. I have a serious addiction that I'm trying to control here....somewhat.

:D

Lots of Germano's songs are husky, semi-dissonant floatiness with dark humor and self-deprecating depression. They're not so much pretty weird as pretty-weird.

RIYL Kristin Hersh, Cat Power, Aimee Mann, Mazzy Starr

I get a few tracks up in a bit, if I'm still awake.

Thank you. I appreciate this.

edit: That "Pearls" song was purty good, your description of this was spot-on.

Ahh...the two dollar album. Like the lure of the siren's song. Never what it seems to be, yet who among us can resist?

I always appreciated her when she was with Mellencamp. Never heard her solo stuff though.

Have you heard OP8 Slush? It's a one-off project consisting of Lisa Germano alongside Howe Gelb, John Convertino, and Joey Burns (all of whom were in Giant Sand at the time, the latter two now in Calexico). Every now and then you'll find it for cheap in the used bins - and it's seriously good.

Look in the upper right quadrant and click the x that looks like it would close a window. That'll get rid of the ad and reveal the link.

Yeah, Hyperupload always has two columns of google ads and the download link is the last link in the right column. Says "Hyperupload download."

Is the majority of her stuff any better than the two songs of hers that she did on the Neil Finn DVD, 7 Worlds Collide? I think they were "Paper Doll" and "Cry Wolf." If that's what her stuff is like, remove Aimee Mann from the RIYL above - those songs were seriously overwrought, depressing, teenage-level poetry - BLECH.
