I agree that Louisiana is the best song by far off the new one but probably agree with little else with that pitchfork review. I also don't get how he could think that there are only a couple of good tracks on either of the other walkmen albums and that this is not as good as those but still deserving of a 6.5.

I'm not really sure what I think of this yet. At this point, I think its probably a little better than their last one but nowhere near as good as their first one. I could see it growing on me though.

If this is the case, I'll have to check it out. I never got into their first too very much.

so false. "snoozefest"? have you heard "we've beenhad"?

'Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone' is downright spectacular.

Bows & Arrows >>>>>>>>>> Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone

I know it's an argument that I can't win here, but nonetheless it is true.

Meh, Everone Who Pretended to Like Me is like Walkmen for wusses. It doesn't have half the emotional punch or the rawness of Bows & Arrows. And I'm absolutely not just talking about the Rat. Plus the first album is too long.

it may not have the emotional punch, but it has the rawness.

personally though, i think "we've been had" has enough emotional punch for the whole album.

first album is long and it drones on, but i wouldn't have it any other way.

It took a while, but Bows + Arrows really grew on me. I agree that some of the slower songs can be kinda boring - I skip some of them now and then. But I enjoy Little House of Savages, My Old Man, The North Pole, New Year's Eve, Thinking of a Dream I Had, and the Rat (which I often skip, actually) enough that I don't mind the slow ones. They contrast nicely with the faster ones, too. Except for Hang On, Siobhan, I always skip that one.

I like both of the first two albums immensely, but tend to give the race to Bows + Arrows by a nose. It just seems to sustain itself all the way through a little better than Everyone Who... . That being said, Everyone Who... contains a few of the best tracks of the new century. I guess I can make it really simple by saying that I just find myself picking up Bows + Arrows much more often than Everyone Who...

I couldn't disagree more. EWPTLM is perhaps one of the 100 best rekkids ever recorded. B&A isn't even one of the 100 best of this decade. I wouldn't even still own B&A if I didn't love EWPTLM so much. I've only held on to it this long in hopes that it would grow on me someday. I've lost much hope of that happening though. It sounds like just another strokes'ish rock record to me where EWPTLM had a lot of grit and nuisanced texture to its sound.

B&A may have more rawness but I still find myself mostly bored by it. And the Rat is probably the worst song they've ever recorded so with that I'll take over as being the person no one will agree with in this thread.

Both of their previous albums had a decent amount of filler, but I'd say EWPTLMIG has the higher highs. That's my favorite of the two. Not enough of their old piano on Bows & Arrows, but I'm guessing it doesn't feature heavily on the new one, either.

And would somebody mind sending me a link to a YSI or something if there's one still up?

is that intentional?

i love "the rat" but it's so goddamn overrated, in a wrensesque manner.
