1. Pale Saints - A Revelation – “Look, on the horizon, its, its…the fritos Rancheros!” Hurray, we’re saved! (And there was much rejoicing!) Nice intro, The theme music for a group of noble ruffian Obner cowboys, saving the high plains from bad music and sober lifestyles. A+ for vinyl cracks and hiss! (hehehe I said vinyl cracks)
2. The Equals - Diversion – This one is crunchy and raucous, feels like beer fueled fun music and makes me want to crash a party, Patron Tequila bottle in hand! Bring on the beer bong!
3. The Cardigans - I Need Some Fine Wine, and You, You Need to be Nicer – This one is radio ready, and I bet if I lived in the states I would hear it all the time, I like her voice, and I’d rather hear this than Gwen Stefani, but overall, not remarkable.
4. Frank & Walters - This is Not a Song –This is not a song that is new, is it? I like it, and it’s full of that fresh pop-y innocence that sometimes gets squashed under the jackboot of angst and Goth mumblings these days, cool!
5. Jellyfish - Baby's Coming Back – I love sugar, its so delicious and its best when its poured straight into my ear, like this song does. So sweet, you’ll need insulin if you listened too many times…rockin’!
6. Connells - 74-75 – Damn, I had not heard this song in so long, after coming out of my diabetic coma, I gravitated to the stereo and turned this one up! I know some people who say that the Connells got over exposed, but obviously just because it’s truly nice stuff.
7. Cracklin' Moth - Special – As I have said before there’s a well in my heart deep enough to swallow baby Jessica and all the miners in Kentucky that can only be quenched by heavy draughts of Alt country, driving up to the neon spangled warehouse I meander through the muddy parking lot and shamble up to the front door. As the door swings open to eject some drunk fuck, this song spills out into the night. Again, if you missed it: excellent & honky-tonk worthy. Good name too. Hick voice: “Cracklin’ Moth. Huh, That there sure is a funny name!”
8. The Lucksmiths - A Hiccup in your Happiness – Nice, I dig a horn section, and he’s got a noice voice, very English sound.
9. Sing-Sing - Come Sing me a Song – Oh, yeah, I’m liking this, OH Yeah, nice string sample, its like the theme song for some wickedly foxy bond girl, she’s got a big henna bee-hive and go-go boots, and she’s not taking any shit, but she sure loves to dance! The last two songs fly this mix across the pond in the Jet Society fashion. What’s the rest of this band’s material sound like? Very ESL…
10. Tiger Lou - Sell Out – This one sailed by twice, I guess I am not really feeling it, sorry. I'm off to the port-o-let, save my spot.
11. Voxtrot - Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives – Ok, its loud and brash and straight on, and Its complex and shit, but is there really a lot here? I’ll have to take your word for it, but overall, not enthralling as some others.
12. The Guillemots - Trains to Brazil – This one is swinging, I like the beat and the vocals make me feel like going for a run, or making a sandwich, the verdict is still out. It’s bouncy and reminds me ever so slightly of Madness. Nice bridge, its building and building, where’s it headed? Who cares, I’m coming along. Ah, happy ending, this is Good stuff!
13. Head Set - Bonnie & Clyde – This one may just be filler, it fits here, but really didn’t do much for me.
14. Death from Above 1979 - Black History Month – This is nice, I like it, but it’s a bit long, is this a remix? It keeps going and it sounds as if it wasn’t originally supposed to have that dance loop under it.
15. Gustavo Cerati - Naci Para Esto – This guy sings for Soda Stereo, si? I don’t mind this, I probably hear it more than most, watching Htv more than Mtv Cool stuff, RIYL Mana and Soda Stereo.
16. Jon Brion - Monday – Now that was fun and a nice segue to the second half (I presume)
17. Autumn Defense – This has that cinematic montage stamp on it for me, the guy’s leaving home, he’s packing up, he’s holding the photo they took together that day in the park, he’s packing his Honda and staring up at the apartment…..sigh *tear*
18. The Howling Hex - Apache Energy Plan – I can see where this is going, sort of a Dazed and Confused sound, copping elements from a bunch of rock influences, its alright, but the lead guitar gets repetitive. Ok, guys, stop, no really, chill.
19. Digger & the Pussycats - Sergi – Shit yeah, now were talking, sorry, snarling! This stokes it up, nice Jim Carroll lyrics. Is this a nod, or a rip of “People Who Died?”Still Jamalama.
20. The New Rags - Your Room – This is cool, too cool. This is music to step out to, it makes me want to stride down the alley, suit shining, reservoir dogs style. Music for murder and mayhem, to be sure. I can play pool in some downtown lounge now, just because I have a copy of this song.
21. Hong Kong - Galaxies – Oh, lookout, the babe in the Go-go boots is back to kick all the evil dockworker’s asses into the bay. Action-packed tune, can’t not enjoy this, it feels empowering!
22. The Seahorses - Love is the Law – This one has cockney swagger, you should score the next installment of Ocean’s Thirteen. This is great! At first we get some Oasis without pretense. Then hands up for an Emphatic “groovy!” to the psychedelic Beatles note! Oh, and then a bass solo. This song has it all; strobes and fog are rolling out from behind my computer screen, some sweaty chick just careened into me shouting. The guitar slays! I’ll buy the jersey after the show. What a finish, it’s the encore! This disc is now officially two much rock for one hand!
BEST. FINISHING. SONG. EVER.
Congrats, Z, I give this seven screaming English Groupies, an Asian Bond Girl and a Roadie!
