Hotel California RIYL ? I suppose inevitably... both because of subject matter (the seductive lure of SoCal and all that it represents... drugs, sex, descent into hell) and the LA countrified studio slick licks. Guess it was also a precursor to Appetite for Destruction for similar reasons.

It'll be interesting to hear from the couple of people here who haven't heard it... will have to be a disappointment. Expectations too high.

When Baerwald released a solo a couple years ago, Here Comes the New Folk Underground, I was pretty enthused and unfortunately it was a pretty thorough disappointment... even to Baerwald.

To scale back expectations, I can also hear Jackson Browne in this (which for me is ok, but I can imagine this makes 80% of Obner vomit).

Browne's had some great songs. Slick production, insufferable personality, but some great songs.

This is the last song on the album, and stylistically speaking, completely different from the above YSI. Each of the 9 tracks tries something different genre or style wise, but the consistency in instrumentation keep it cohesive.

I'll agree to that. It definitely sounds dated in its slickness, but it is lyrically grit and gristle against all that 80's dayglo.

I always pictured Kevin dealing dope out of a Denny's restaurant...not a bar. D'oh!
