Barry Bonds will try to tie Babe Ruth tonight versus the Cards and Albert Pujols. Pujols will try to hit his 23 HR of the season tonight. I believe he is one HR behind Bonds record season pace right now.

Um, Bonds already tied Babe Ruth. He'll pass him tonight if he hits one.

Bonds has had his career. I try refraining from discussion of what a prick he is because he was impressive for a long time.

Pujols, however, is the present and future. He gets my attention. Bonds can wander off to his own personal hell and goodbye to him.

Yeah, sorry about the mistake. I forgot he finally hit one this weekend to tie Ruth.

More like a 33- year old-looking 26-year old.

I can't believe the Cards are going to lose this game. I figured Bonds might get lucky and hit a garbage HR late in a loss tonight, but the Cards hitters are sucking it up.

So what if Poo-holes hits 65+ homers this year. Are we gonna hear steroid talk? And if no, is it solely because of his age? Or because theyve started testing and youd have to be an imbecile to still be taking them...either way, why is it that no one ever questions these guys that were complete unknowns until they burst on the scene acting like lou gehrig and shit.

I know Bonds cheated, I know Sosa, McGwire, Palmeiro cheated. But what about guys like Albert Belle, Manny, Thome, The Big Hurt, Pudge Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez...nobody is looking at those guys. I guess if Barry had been nicer and had only hit 650 homers nobody would be having this discussion, right?

Well, Belle's not exactly nice.

There's a difference in that many people suspected Bonds, Sosa and McGwire for years. Palmeiro not so much because he was very good at portraying himself as a class act. People believed his image.

There's no way to know if some of the younger guys have used except perhaps by examining their swings. Pujols has the swing of a methodical perfectionist who studies every facet of his hitting, not of a brute who pulls and plows the ball willy nil. He doesn't seem to have a steroid demeanor.

Anyway, anyone using at this point is a dumbass.

I don't trust anybody in baseball anymore. Nobody is outside of the realm of suspicion for juicing at this point.

After all the scrutiny of steriod use in the last 2-3 years there were still 25+ guys that tested positive last year.

You have to be a complete moron to do it at this point and yet guys apparently still are.

I think the only way these suspicions can be put down is if they literally have Pujols pee in cup every week or something.

I think baseball is at that point where they have to prove to the public beyond a shadow of a doubt that it's clean.

oh and fuck the Mets.

Though I guess Bonds has always had a pretty pure swing.
Dunno, maybe it is his prickly personality.

Post-enhancement careers are varying now.

Giambi came back and became a hitter again. But looks like some guys break down more permanently than others after getting off the juice.

It is pretty safe to say that Juan Pierre is not juicing.

I do actually have ESPN news, and I did remember seeing that he tied the record, but it slipped my mind. After having him take 2-3 weeks to hit the tying home run, I got in the habit of thinking he was still one back.

As a Cubs fan, it is my duty to hate the Cardinals.
That said, Pujols is one hell of a ballplayer.

Give him a couple years. He'll work out really hard one summer and come back looking like some mongoloid version of the Hulk and all of sudden he's hitting 40 hmrs a year with ease.

Why not? Marvin Benard was.

I'd certainly add Jeff Bagwell to the list of probables and Piazza to the list of possible users. Of the stars of the '90's, I'd only put Junior Griffey above reproach. He was a home run hitter right from the start and his physique never morphed into Bluto's. It's really too bad that he sustained so many injuries because he might have made a legitimate run at 700 had he not.

I know George Brett cheated, I know Graig Nettles cheated, I know Gaylord Perry cheated, I know Don Drysdale cheated, I know Joe Niekro cheated...

I have no idea if any of them used steroids though.

Apples and Oranges. There's a big difference between stealing 5 bucks from your mom's purse and robbing a bank.

I guess I just said that because I saw it probably close to 500 times along with the AJ Perzinski blow to the head as I went from pizza joint, to bar, to strip club in Chicago. (I was in town for a bachelor party for my superhorn dog friend who only wanted to "visit Boobdom" Each place had ESPN news running so It was in my view for the better part of 6 hours. If those 2 things hadn't happened, I don't know what I would haev been stuck watching.
