I am indifferent, but for some reason their harmonies instantly recall my childhood and AM radio.

Was this just a super-group with slight flashes of goodness, or are they overall sucky?

I like parts of the first record, but haven't really given them a thorough listen ever. Definitely on my list of "bands I should know more about" largely because I'm really into harmonizing...

Nice thread title, btw.

solid band with some great moments. Now a shadow of their former selves, so don't go and see them, because they are incapable of harmonizing in tune.

They rule. All my parents used to listen to.

Yeah, I dig a lot of their early stuff.

I've never really heard much of them, my only interest in them has been because of Y.

This made me chuckle. I don't hate them, but I'm not really interesting in hearing more from them.

it's hard to sing in tune when you're hard of hearing.

So my buddy pete and i were at the newport folk festival, Aug. 04 (which was awesome), and also at the newport guitar festival (high end acoustic guitar builders showing their wares). These two events were separated by about a mile and a half of water. CSN closed out the first night, and we had to bail cause it was so loud and so bad. Seriously, half a song in. Then we drive back to the fest, and some of the luthiers came out to have a smoke and they were all like "wtf IS that? Who's skinning a cat? etc..." and we told them it was CSN, and no one could believe it because it was THAT BAD.

But weren't they always infamous for being terrible live? Even back in the day? I've never heard of anyone saying they could pull it off live.

beats me, but the shit they sang on record was so tight that all three had to be ON, regardless of whether they tracked one voice at a time or sang together.

This sounded like there was no way these old farts could have ever been THAT band.

I've heard the same thing.

So who all out of the group was banging Joni Mitchell? Was it all of them at one time or another? I've never been clear on that....
