as desmond said, "did you ever think it was the other way around?"

that the observers are being observed.

Right. I meant to comment on that before. Desmond was right, Locke was wrong. The Pearl was just a psychological test. They seat the two goons in front of a bunch of monitors, tell them they're observing a psyche test and to write down everything they do and everything that happens.

They do so but it's just a test on them so the notebooks shoot out of a tube into a middle of a deserted clearing. It would appear that they're meaningless and unimportant, but I wouldn't be surprised if reading a few of them would be very educational.

Right, but if you were observing people, wouldn't you want to know what they were writing? This leads me to beleive that nobody in The Pearl was being observed, and that the station was only there so that Locke and Eko would find it. however, there were obviously some people there, as the pile would lead us to believe.

Also, from what I remember, The Pearl didn't have a living area, so anyone stationed there must have been moving in and out frequently.

Highlights from the Lost Blog analysis:

Penny Widmore. As in the Widmore logo that was on Sun's pregnancy test and the Widmore logo that was seen on the "real" Henry Gale's balloon and the Widmore logo that was briefly seen in one of Charlie's flashbacks.

Kelvin -- Desmond's hatch partner -- is the CIA agent who manipulated Sayid into torturing his superior officer in "One of Them"!

The message on the arctic guys computer screen that interrupted their chess game was: "Electromagnetic Anomaly Detected"

God I love this show... And for what it is worth, I for one find the idea of the Magnetic Pulse / Anomaly to be what made the island "Hidden" from the "Outside". It would also play with anything mechanical in the area. Much like what is theorized about the Bermuda Triangle.

Here are a couple of interesting tidbits....

BY THE WAY....

Dont read further if you dont want to know.... No real spoilers though...

"05/25 - Producers of ABC's hit series Lost [...] told SCI FI Wire that it sets up the upcoming third season, which will focus more on romance—and on the mysterious Others. "The Others are an important part of season three, and there's a lot of mysteries and a lot of questions about the Others that the audience is going to be curious about going into season three," said executive producer Carlton Cuse in an interview. "And those are the things we're going to explore." Cuse added: "There will definitely be some new characters on the show next year. ... Obviously, Michael Emerson, who plays Henry Gale, he's someone who's going to be very prominent in the show next year." Fans were also introduced to a new character who promises to figure in next season's storylines: Penelope Widmore, played by Sonya Walger. [...] "I'm excited about love in season three," said executive producer Bryan Burk, adding: "Don't forget now the people have been on the island for 60-plus days. They're now obviously more familiar with each other. ... The concept of love is there, and... it weaves its way through all of our characters. It's going to be much more prevalent in season three." Source: Sci Fi Wire

05/24 - Carlton Cuse reveals: I will say that the next season is a lot about the Others. There's a lot of mysteries about the Others that we'll be getting into next year. [We will see more of Alex next season.] Source: E! Online

05/22 - Harold Perrineau (MICHAEL) is not a regular for next season. He could be back as a guest star (à la Walt this season) but not as a regular cast member. Source: Kristin on E!Online

05/16 - [In Season 3,] there will be new locations and new characters (one rumor has Desmond joining the cast full-time, but producers won't comment). The season's big theme sounds timely, twisty, and terrifying. Hints Lindelof: "'Us versus Them.' But who's the 'us,' and who's the 'them'?" Source: Entertainment Weekly

Random guesses and responses and stuff:

Image

- If you remember your high school science, magnetic fields curve from one magnetic pole to the other. The electromagnetic forces emanating from the island screw up Desmond's boat's navigation instruments, leading him in a circle away from and then back to the island. The only way to avoid screwing up your instruments would be by sailing straight up from either the north or south magnetic pole--which is why they told Michael to follow one specific header when he sailed away.

- The magnetic anomaly incidents had nothing to do with the food drop; the drops are regular scheduled events to feed the people in the Swan station and were not brought on by anyone not pressing the button.

- I don't think the magnetic anomaly caused by Desmond's earlier not-pressing-the-button-on-time literally sucked the plane out of the air, it just made the plane's instruments malfunction, which led to the crash.

- I don't see why some people are so bothered by the coincidence of Desmond's "system failure" incident bringing down the plane just as it happened to fly over the island, yet you're not all that bothered by the million other incredible coincidences that puts these specific people on that specific plane flight, etc. There's some kind of fate (?) involved bringing these people together. Desmond's system failure was just a cog in a whole line of events that were leading to some specific outcome.

- Or is it fate? We know the Dharmans are experimenting with psychic powers of varying kinds. Could part of their work be to attract other people with "talents," not in some obvious Close Encounters visions-of-Devil's-Tower way, but by somehow manipulating the "luck plane" (to steal a Subgenius term) of these special people so that the wheels of destiny bring them to the island?

- Why did the others want Jack, Kate and Sawyer? It's been suggested that, like Walt and the polar bear, Jack somehow manifested his father onto the island and Kate did the same with her horse, but what about Sawyer? Well, there were Sawyer's little incidents with the warthog and the frog that seemed to bother only him. Can Sawyer manifest things too?

- Somebody mentioned that they didn't see living facilities in the Pearl hatch like there are in the Swan--that's because no one stayed there. If you remember the Pearl training film, the people watching the closed-circuit TVs are told at the end of their daily shift to go to the Pala Ferry. A sign on the dock in last night's finale said Pala Ferry.

- Then there's the question of why Henry, as Mr. Big (if he is Mr. Big), would risk joining up with the castaways, not arming himself, and getting the snot beat out of him. Well we've seen that the island has some interesting healing powers, and Rose mentioned that she and Locke both know that his injured leg won't take weeks to heal. The Others certainly know about these powers as well--maybe Henry knew he wouldn't have to worry about any injuries he might get from the suspicious castaways.

- Locke and Eko are so totally not dead.

Questions:
- As Desmond started to ask at one point, why have people push the button every 108 minutes when you can program a computer (or one of those dunking birds like Homer uses ["It's drinking the water!"]) to push the button for you?
- Why wasn't Michael leading Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley back to the Other's camp? Judging by Sayid's smoke signal being miles away from the group (Jack says something to that effect), Michael was not heading for that camp, but I don't remember the Others telling him to lead them somewhere else.
- Why would the Others let Walt go, if he's so "talented"? I suspect they know he'll be back--or have arranged it that way.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mike and Walter get intercepted by Widmore goons. Either Female Widmore goons looking for Desmond, or Male Widmore goons making sure no word about the island is leaked to the outside world.

Or, as Lump pointed out, the magnetic forces so screw with Michael and Walt's navigation tools that they end up running in a circle. I don't believe that 325 will get them out.

I'm not so interested in romance next season unless it involves me and Alex Rousseau.

I'm guessing Claire and Charlie will be the primary love story. They'll keep the tension going between Jack and Kate but I doubt it'll be a full-fledged "getting caught in the metaphoric net" type love story. Obviously, Sun and Gin will get more air time as well.

I wonder who Alex Rousseau will end up falling for, you know someone will fall for her.

Hurley - you know they have to give him someone after taking Libby away like that.

Out of context, but I think the actor who portrays Desmond is sexy. Just sayin'...

Back to your hypotheses.

I would agree with your statement, Ms. T. Although that "brutha" business is getting old.

If ABC was smart, they'd air a weekly Lost analysis show during the summer, to keep interest pegged up to the new season. They could have a panel of viewers and critics discuss key plot points, one episode at a time, and air each of the pertinent scenes. It would get much better ratings than Dancing with Celebrity Skaters in the Kitchen, or whatever similarly bastardized reality crap they've got in the hopper.

Nah, it's gotta be Ms. Clue ("Dee"). She probably turned Hurley loose so she could catch up with him in the jungle later and take the rhino for a ride.

Let's reimagine Lost with an all-Obner cast:

Darrin would HAVE to be Desmond.
Bloor would HAVE to be Sawyer.
Phil (POD) would kick ASS as Sayid.
Even though he's not bald, I could see Maine Phil (frostingspoon) as Locke, from a character-based standpoint.
bort would be Arzt.
harry would be Jack's dad.
LooGAR would be Zeke ("Tom").

Who else???

You should be Kate (not just for the name), but Aaron wouldn't work as Jack, so I don't know if we can cast you as such. How about Libby?

i'm so busy today, so i'll spit my thoughts out in small bits.

polar bears come from the arctic. those dudes at the end? the arctic.

the island has wack magnetic stuff where you can't tell which way north is, or any direction for that matter. you know where else you can't tell where north or south is? the poles.

i like this train of thought about teleporting. i also like this penny-follows-desmond thing.

also on the subject of poles and magnets. magnets can attract metals, but they can also reject or push away others in the right kind of settings, yes? i can't remember much from elementary school. nobody can ever find the island, first, because it mucks with their instruments and second because maybe the island rejects objects.

not pushing the button is the "incident." or maybe turning the key. i wonder what damage the other incident did.

locke and eko are so not dead.

desmond is prolly dead.

michael and walt are not going to get "rescued" at all. ill bet it just turns them round in circles.

claire better watch out for her baby next season big time.

charlie acted all weird because charlie is kinda a new person now. the blast did something to him.

henry is "he" because he's so good with the mind games. but on the other hand, he was upset with "zeke" for revealing the beard trick so if everything's a facade, that includes him. perhaps he's second in command.

hurley for president.

michael is machevelli.

libby is an other.

we haven't discovered all the hatches yet, right? the others chill out there.
