I take Dickens-Humboldt-Palmer Sq-Kedzie that's like the first two minutes of my ride, then ten minutes west on Fullerton to Laramie-Belden-Lockwood...

It's an ugly ride, and very windy. There's lots of construction and no bike lanes, and general stupidity, but I love the ride.

It'll suck at first, but then it'll be the best time of your day.

Except for sex, booze, and really good food.

When you finally get around to doing it, do it for one whole week, and see how you feel by the end of it. You'll be surprised how short that ride feels.

depending on terrain and traffic, I'm guessing that when you first start out, you'll be over an hour, maybe an hour 20, but not by much. I bet you shave it down to 50-55 within a month or two.

It's rural, light traffic, not alot of stop lights?

If so, you'll be flying in no time, and a 4 minute mile will seem like a little bit of work, but nothing approaching murderous. Especially if you've got some sweet hills to coast/pedal your ass off going down.

Then your legs will be all shredded for wifey.

i'd agree with phil and say that it should be down to just under an hour after a few days/weeks. the first time i rode to work took 55 minutes (8 miles), but almost 20 of those minutes were riding through the loop during morning rush hour. now i take a much faster route and can usually get it done in a half-hour. once you've been on the route a few times, you learn better how to ride it.

Yeah the area is rather rural/semi-rural.. a real nice area. Sweet - I think I can handle those times... now the question is what bike to buy. I find it hard to delay gratification and want to buy a bike now.. damn

ps. Phil, my friend mike (the bassist) really liked your bass line on 'Mind & Body' -

I'm currently trying to find a decent route that I can bike up to work in Glenview. Milwaukee Ave is suicide once you leave Chicago - there is no shoulder at all and traffic is FAST. Side streets shouldn't be a problem, so it's just a matter of finding a semi-direct route.

An old boyfriend of mine used to ride from Wheeling (is that near Glenview?) to Chicago and Wheeling to Schaumburg on bike paths. I don't know where the paths are, unfortunately, but it might be worth looking into. The Chicago Bike Federation might be able to help you out.

I have to listen again, I was multitasking at the time (trying to pin down an apartment). But he really liked the 'simple and laidback' style yet really creative.. anyhow, carry on
