FISHING.

man, I really wanted to go out on a boat out onto the elizabeth river and have a beer or two and just catch some fish. It is like the perfect leisure activity for the beautiful day that it was today.

Great day for cruising, here--sunny and warm. Saw a '70 Chevelle SS, a '67 or '68 Firebird, a late-60's Olds 88 vert, and pristine '67 Mustang fastback. Had all windows down (no center post) and the vent windows open--sheer bliss.

Late yesterday I was at the Hague (the inlet in Ghent, Norfolk) and the fish were popping up to eat the yummy insects...and the seagulls were manic trying to get them.

I'm in Williamsburg but spend a lot of time in Norfolk...in fact, all my free time there.

What kind of fish do you get in the Elizabeth? Croaker? Cat? Snappin' Turtle?

haha. I don't know. I have never caught one. hahaha. Al I have right now is just a boat dock to fish off. I don't own a boat. I want one but considering I make 8 bucks an hour and don't get benefits it is gonna be a while before I get a boat.

I just was really craving going fishing today.

I love Norfolk. It's not the best city in the country by far but I think it is very unique and an enjoyable place to spend time in. Do you go to the Naro theater much?

Do I go to the Naro? Well, yeah, not as much as I should considering my boyfriend works next door at the Naro video and gets in free. Last thing I saw there was "Art School Confidential". I also go to Relative Theory a lot to buy cds (well not a lot since I'm broke but I tag along to watch bf buy stuff). They have some good shows coming up at RT...do you ever go to shows there? Snowden were there last month and will be back in August (great show) and North Elementary are going there...oh at the Norva there are some good shows coming up like Of Montreal with The Minders. TV on the Radio are coming but as a support act for Bauhaus/Nine Inch Nails but I can't bring myself to go into an amphitheatre to watch a show (I like small places better). But yeah, Norfolk is a good city to hang out in.

I actually am just trying to get ro know Norfolk more. I have been to the Norva a couple times. Even though it is a larger than I like venue, I do like it. I have never been to RT. What street is it on?

Actually they have great prices. Up here and in Richmond we have Plan 9 which I find really expensive ($14.99 and up mostly). At RT, it varies but they are generally around $11.99 and they have a good selection plus they have a decent-sized used section.

sweet. I have been looking for a good store aroiund here. I have been surprised, especially since Ghent seems to be somewhat in touch with the more artsy of things, that there aren't more quality music stores.

I saw some of those shows that are coming up but I am not really in to any of those bands. I wish more shows would come to Norfolk. I think Mono would have done well at the Norva. But, I guess the population is too military and less permanent so it typically means most shows are somewhat larger name bands. Who knows.

Other local stores are Skinny's on Colonial Avenue (next to Yorgo's) and Birdland which is out in VA Beach somewhere-ish (I don't know, I just drive, BF navigates). Skinny's leans more towards the metal side of things but you can find the odd, cool thing there and Birdland has good stuff but you have to dig for it as it is a very unorganized store.

RE: shows...yeah there are few shows really I am interested in going to. There always seems to be a lot of 80s revival bands coming through town like X, English Beat, Echo, etc. Did you live around there when the Boathouse had shows? (that would be pre-Hurricane Isabel) Richmond barely has anything I want to see either. All the good shows go to Raleigh/Durham, NC or up to NoVA/DC area.
