So, not surprisingly, Radcliffe brought this up in the 'Ignored' thread, but on the off-hand chance people ignored that thread as well, I'm giving it a post on its own because it fucking deserves it. Jesus, this is a great album. From the first track 'Never Gonna Be Your Baby', and the second she hits the word '...Baaaaby', you're just hooked and personally think if that's the last voice I ever heard on earth, that would be just fine by me. The whole goddamn album is filled with moments like this. 'All I Want' and ''Hey Sah Lo Ney' are also near perfect in my opinion. The voice is a little worse for wear, age and cigs have probably roughed it up a bit, but it's still golden. Standouts are 'You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory', which is obviously a Johnny Thunders cover, but it's not a rote cover and Ronnie sort of makes it into her own. The other is a song that I haven't heard in I don't know how long called 'Girl from the Ghetto'. I think it was an late 80s or early 90s song pop song that Ronnie takes and turns into a big fuck-off to Phil. It's goddamn brilliant and made me stop what I was doing to listen to it unattended. I can't say enough good things about this right now. Maybe my enthusiasm will tone down, but I doubt it. I don't hear enough stuff like this makes me feel this way.

She'd slay on "You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory" (and probably does). I'll have to get this.

Is this a 2006 release?

I don't know whether the album itself is any good or not, but that is hands down the album COVER of the year!

Bottom line:
Ronnie needs to be included in the "Attractive Older women" thread.
Wow.

It's amazing that she doesn't seem to have aged a day, given her prolonged exposure to such skin-damaging carcinogens as cigarettes and Eddie Money.

Ronnie's in her sixties, folks. Plus she's RONNIE SPECTOR. She's earned the right to be judged on criteria other than whether or not a buncha message board sadsacks would fuh.

And dammit, Dumpjack - how'd you get this thing so fast? I'm still waiting on delivery.

"Great Photoshop retouching" thread?

Does this sound anything like what the Dirtbombs did with Andre Williams?

I found it on dat internet last night, but I'm off to try and find a real copy tonight. When you get it, give us your thoughts. As my blurb attests, I'm pretty bowled over by it. LooGAR will likely lose his goddamn mind when he hears it.

I saw your PM...haven't had the chance to digest it yet. Needless to say, this may be this year's holy grail of jail.

Regardless of the seismic indifference, I remain proud of this line.

Sounds like a must-have... but why is it $25 at Amazon for a single CD.

Fuggin' imports. I'll pay it.

Two song titles I recognize from earlier Ronnie records--"You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory" was on the She Talks to Rainbows EP that Kill Rock Stars put out in 1999, and she recorded "Here Today Gone Tomorrow" (a Ramones song) in 1980. I wonder if these are new versions or is this some kind of compilation?

As far as I know, "You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory" is pulled wholesale from the She Talks To Rainbows ep. "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow", on the other hand, is being called a "reworking" of the the version that appeared on 1980's Siren.

Isn't it great? That was my thought on first pass, two songs in and I'm totally hooked. I think I played it about 4 times yesterday, which I can easily see doing again today.

I knew I heard that Girl from the Ghetto song before.

This was originally called Girl from the Gutter. It was a pop song from like 2000 by a 1 hit wonder named Kina.

Wierd.

This album is more interesting in like a car wreck way so far. But I'm gonna give it a full listen before taking a full on shit on it.

Yeah! That's the one, although I never would have known Kina was the chick's name. I guess I was off in my estimates of when I first heard 'Girl from the Gutter' though.
