I think the "love story" they are talking about for season 3 has to do with Desmond and Penny. I think the mythology is going to expand to include things off the island like Penny clashing with her dad, Charles Widmore (the guy who picked Desmond up after being released from prison), and the dirty dealings of Widmore industries and the Hanso foundation while she fights to find out what happened to Desmond. I'm sick of the Claire/Charlie storyline so hopefully that's not what they are talking about.

i'm catching up on this show now. i just watched the episode where michael shot everyone and now i'm on the eko one. i hope it's explained by the end of the season.

I missed this episode and it had to be explained to me. I'm guessing watching it was much better.

yeah, though i knew some of the details (michael shooting ana lucia) before i watched it. i didn't know he shot libby or that he shot himself and let the dude go.

I am pretty sure that Michael is not going to leave the island. It was too large a part of the story to have them just follow the coordinates and be on their way. I guaruntee you that Michael and Walt will be back in full force. I think Michael had an attack of conscience. And, I think those two will run into Sayid and Jin and Sun.

Also, I think Hurley is dead.

But seriously, what was with the look between Kate/Jack/Sawyer there at the end?

i think the look was just between jack and kate and sawyer didn't know what the fuck was going on.

Something I read said that Michael will have even less of a role this season than he did in the last one. So maybe he'll pull a Desmond and disappear but we'll see him again in the last few episodes.

i agree. people are making too much of jacks slo-mo blink and not-even-half nod. only jack knows that sayid is out there somewhere looking for them, right?

i dunno, it seemed like it wasn't about that but about something else.

So I just bought season one on dvd yesterday. Got it for $26 used, whereas it's usually about $60 new.

So I'm forcing my parents to watch it with me, a) so they'll quit making snide comments when I'm watching the new episodes and they catch a short snippet while walking past and b) because clearly everybody and their (my) mother needs to watch it.



But it's fascinating some of the things I'm picking out now on second viewing. Even as far back as the first episode. The very first time we see Kate, she walks into the clearing where Jack is, rubbing her wrists. Presumedly because they're sore from the handcuffs.

The first time Kate speaks to Sun, you can see her visibly forcing herself to pretend she doesn't understand.

We get a close-up shot of Vincent sitting in the bushes as Jack, Kate and Charlie head to the front of the plane. This furthers the whole "Vincent shows up before trouble" motif as the monster destroys the pilot shortly after.

Also, on top of the whole "Walt's some psychic, all-powerful Franklin Richards-type kid", when him and Michael are arguing about the dog, Michael says "I'll look him for as soon as it stops raining." Walt's looking at the ground, discouraged, prior to this. When he says this, Walt looks up, it stops raining immediately, and stares at his dad, like "well?"

It's called foreshadowing and most fiction is built with it.

Most might be a bit strong. The best is, yeah. But few tv shows have it to such a degree of specificity that Lost does.

Though, it's actually only 36 pages, not 48.
