The tourney starts this weekend with plenty of Obner schools.
Texas, Nebraska and Georgia are all Top 8 seeds, as is Alabama. Clemson is the top seed overall.

Arkansas is a two seed, but hosting a region and playing Oral Roberts
Notre Dame is a three seed in the Kentucky Regional and playing the College of Charleston
Vanderbilt is a two seed in the Georgia Tech regional and playing Michigan
UCLA is a two seed in the Pepperdine regional and playing UC-Irvine
Alabama plays Jacksonville State
Oklahoma plays TCU at the region that OU is hosting.
Georgia plays Sacred Heart in Athens
Nebraska plays Manhattan in Lincoln
Miami plays San Francisco in Lincoln
Texas plays UT-Arlington in Austin
NC State plays Stanford in Austin

Nebraska, Texas and Georgia will all be in the same bracket if they make it to Omaha.

Do you ever go to WS games Promethium?

Like, is it hard/expensive to get tickets?

First year LSU won't be in the post-season since 89'. Sucks. Time to fire Smoke.

Do you think Skip will pull the trigger? I don't.

They aren't expensive, but they sellout fast. I believe they already went on sale a few weeks back, and since Nebraska has been playing well in recent years, they gobble up most of the GA tickets.
Since LSU didn't make it, they might be your best hope for tickets, since their fans expect to make it to Omaha every year.

<-----LOVES the College World Series. Especially if the Dawgs are in it.

Nothing better than to watch some team come back from 9-2 in the 8th with 4 home runs on a regular basis.

I went to see UGA/GA TECH go at it for 11 innings at Turner Field earlier this year.

I'd love to go to Omaha sometime for this. Always a great crowd and great event.

UGA's got the horses on offense but our pitching is suspect.

I think Clemson is definitely the favorite but really, any of the top 10-15 have a legit shot. Nebraska will a HUGE advantage if they make it to the CWS with it being in Omaha. Never understood why it's always there.

If UGA beats Sacred Heart and plays FSU in the 2nd round this weekend I may make a trip over to Athens. I've got a free pass for all the games in Athens this weekend.

Guy I coach with here played at LSU in the late '80's. He knows Skip and Smoke pretty well. He seems to think it's 50/50. Depends on how much pressure Skip gets.

The CWS is in Omaha, because the City of Omaha has dumped a ton of money into keeping it there over the years. Plus, it's capacity can be increased easier than most stadiums of its size. I think it was initially placed there due to its centralize location in the U.S., so that no team from the south or west coast has an advantage. Nebraska has only won one game at the CWS ever, so its advantage is minimal.
They have talked about moving it to Durham or Oklahoma City recently, but Omaha made a bid for it when the event was not very popular and has always done what was requested of them by the NCAA to keep it there.
The tradition has been to make it to Omaha, so nobody really wants to move it from there.

Unfortuantely I've never made it but I've heard from countless LSU fans that Omaha does a great job hosting. I know several people who go whether LSU is in or not.

My dad loves the LSU fans who do this. My parents live about 30 miles west of Lincoln, and I have numerous relatives in the Omaha area, so he usually gets tickets to go to at least one day of games every year. He told me about the LSU fans that come even if their team doesn't make it, and he absolutely loves talking to them (my dad is notorious for his love of talking to strangers).

I didn't get a ticket into the CWS the first year that Nebraska made it, but we went up there anyway and got tanked in the beer gardens that surround the stadium.
LSU didn't make it that year, but the Tulane fans were awesome and had this huge tent set up for their alumni group. They were giving away beads and had a great Zydeco band playing.
Georgia made it that year too, I believe they or Tennessee joined us as the first two schools eliminated.

Nonsense. Georgia never loses or gets eliminated. They choose to do so to let other people win to make sports more interesting.

Tennessee on the other hand................can't read.

Huskerpunk,
Does your family live in Crete, York or Seward? Those are my guesses since they are all around that distance on I-80 West.

I went to high school in Seward, but my parents actually live in Goehner (population - 186) and have lived there for 34 years (still in the house I was raised in). But you would have been really lucky to guess that. ;)

I decided to do a bracket for this, even though I know little about ACC or West Coast baseball this year.
I have Clemson, Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Fullerton, Missouri, UNC, Alabama, Rice, Wichita State, Virginia, Georgia, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Kansas and Texas advancing to the Super Regionals
I have Clemson, Kentucky, Fullerton, Alabama, Rice, Virginia, Nebraska and Texas advancing to the CWS.
I think Vandy, Pepperdine, OU and Oregon State might prove me wrong in my regional predictions.
I'm a little scared of how well Nebraska and Georgia will perform against the Florida powerhouses, but I think home field will be enough for them to cruise to the Super Regionals.
I found the Norman, OK and Malibu regionals the toughest to pick.

I'm now going with Clemson, Charleston, Fullerton, Alabama, Rice, Georgia, Ole Miss and Oregon State to make the CWS and I am predicting a final four of Clemson/Fullerton and Rice/Georgia. It's too hard right now for me to pick a CWS winner.

wow, you are a sick bastard. though I know of people who even gamble on the WNBA.

Georgia Tech always seems to shit the bed in the WS despite perenially having amazing teams.

Warner killed Arkansas earlier this year (17 strikeouts, I believe).

Promethium,

Are you worried about Friday's game against Manhattan? Their slated starting pitcher (their ace) is 11-2 with 8 complete games, a 1.45 ERA and opponents' are only batting .195 against him. He's only given up 3 HR's all year, and he has 98 strikeouts with only 22 walks. His WHIP is under 1.00...

I'm scared... of course, Manhattan's schedule isn't that tough, but he threw a complete game shutout against Tulane earlier this year.

I'm more worried about our pitcher struggling early than of the team having trouble hitting. While Nebraska does hit a decent number of home runs, they are also a tremendous bunting and small ball team.
My gut feeling is that Nebraska tags this guy for a few early runs, Manhattan pulls him and Nebraska blows them out the rest of the way.
I read today that the MAAC conference that Manhattan is a member of has done pretty bad lately in the tourney and I believe Nebraska has never lost a regional game when it was a national top eight seed.
Nebraska's pitching struggled a bit in the Big 12 tourney, but the bats were pretty hot. The Huskers came back in at least 2 of 3 games they played to get to the title game and were one hit from overcoming a 5 run deficit in the 9th.

Manhattan 3
Nebraska 1

Top of the 8th

Told ya so, Promethium... ;)

And the way Nebraska has played the last month, there is very little chance we win 4 games in a row to take this regional. :( :( :(

My concern was more accurate than your concern. The huskers pitcher struggled early and gave up a couple home runs. Nebraska and Manhattan had almost identical hitting stats, but they were able to hit the long ball and drive in base runners. Nebraska stranded almost everyone.
Nebraska hit the ball fairly well, they had eight hits to Manhattan's seven, so that wasn't the problem like you thought

I don't see Nebraska advancing now unless Miami loses tonight as well. Manhattan will most likely not be able to pitch their ace again during this region. Nebraska has a decent pitching staff. They just need to play with the same intensity they did in the early rounds of the Big 12 tournament. They were able to beat Texas 3 out of 4 times this year, and swept Alabama, they just need to play like an underdog again.
I'm just glad that Rice is losing to Praire View, so that two of the top seeds have struggles.

Praire View A&M has an outfielder named Oscar Goldman, that is freaking awesome. Too bad their pitcher isn't Steve Austin.
