That man is just too cool.

My friend and I were discussing it and it really wasn't an "end of series" ending. It was a "lead-in to the next movie" ending.

I mean they hinted that Prof would be back, Magneto would get his powers, etc. but it didn't actually happen. It looked like they were implying "just wait til the next one" so there kind of has to be a next one now.

Plus, we want Gambit.

Apparently Lost's Sawyer was asked about doing a cameo in this film as Gambit but he felt it would be too much like Sawyer and he didn't want to be typecast.

Besides which, Gambit needs to be about the same age as Rogue.

yeah, i think there's a lot of potential in part of a next movie revolving around certain characters slowly getting their powers back.

I'm thinking the thread title should be ammended to "spoilers included" now that most people have seen it over the weekend. Or at least many have.

I agree with el scorcho on a couple points. The beginning was a little lackluster and there were parts that left me going "hmm" but once it picked up it was pretty awesome. Really liked it.

And yeah, to me the film did not come across like an ending. And I kept sitting there thinking that there HAS to be another film made. This is one series I thoroughly enjoy and as long as the films are well done I could envision a couple more.

Oh and we took my son to see it who is a HUGE X-Men fan. Hell the previews before the film were scarier then the film itself for him. Poor kid.

A few thoughts, and probably some spoilers, but I'll try to keep them pretty vague...

-I liked K. Grammar as Beast. Great casting, but I thought his costume was pretty weak. The blue fur was too Muppet-y. I guess I always thought of Beast as being blue withe very dark, almost black fur. I'm pretty sure that would've looked better in the movie anyway.

-Did anyone notice that in credits, there was a character listed as "Psylocke"? WTF? Please tell me this wasn't that Asian chick that Magneto recruited at the beginning, the who could zip around and "sense other mutants".

-Also, the last character listed in the credits was "Omega Mutie", which I was assuming was the dude shooting bones at Wolverine. He seemed like sort of a cross between Omega Red and Marrow from the comics. Just, I dunno, a pointless observation.

-On that note, who's left for Wolverine to fight in his "solo" movie? Silver Samurai? The first movie already ruined Sabretooth.

-I was pretty pissed about the major character deaths and the lack of Nightcrawler. Also, the scenes with Angel were pretty lame on the big screen. His part in the movie was a total letdown. As was Juggernaut. What a total waste of that character.

-As much as I love Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, I think they're just way too old to play action movie characters. McKellen especially just seems way too frail to be Magneto, but Stewart is a better Xavier than anybody else could ever hope to be. Unfortunately, it looks like this movie provided a way for using a different actor for Xavier if they make another, but McKellen would still have to be Magneto. It'd be cool if they could pull something from the comics and have Magneto's aging regress, but I highly doubt they'd do that, even if they make another movie.

-Overall I thought it was a lot of fun even if it was pretty dumb and very frustrating/disappointing in parts. I'm obviously a pretty big comic nerd, and I was big X-Men fan in my early teens (the mid 90s, probably the worst period for those books) so that colors my perception of these movies a lot. Mostly I'm just glad that they got made and are, at the very least, competent, fun action movies.

Actually, rumors are that Juggernaut might be in the Wolverine movie. Also, it might turn out to be more like the Punisher or Elektra movies where there's no real supervillain and it's mostly him fighting a bunch of ninjas and members of the Weapon X security.

I too felt Angel was really underutilized, though. He's one of the founding X-Men in the comics and all he does in this is run away from his dad and then show up in the nick of time to save him.

If they do an X4, they could intro Apocalypse and have him become Archangel though.

Why are you reading three pages of a movie thread about a movie you haven't seen yet, but apparently intend to?

That would be nice, but I know I really shouldn't get my hopes up for an X4.

I really hope you're wrong about the Wolverine movie, though. These movies need good villains. That's something that X2 & 3 really didn't do so well, I thought. Stryker/Mastermind were kinda weak villains for X2, I thought, and Dark Phoenix was completely underdeveloped in X3. Mystique and Magneto were both great, but the one big problem I had with X2 (and one of the many with X3) is that it didn't really introduce any new major villains, just supporting ones.

Yeah, I was thinking about X4 possibilities and the key would be to do both. Maybe bring in supporting villains like Blob and Avalanche and have the young kids duke it out at the mansion while the adults band together to take on a much bigger threat like Apocalypse or Sentinels and the Tri-Sentinel.

This thing took in over $44 million yesterday...biggest opening Friday ever.

Is the "biggest ever" stat based on the actual gross amount in today's dollars and at today's cinema prices? I understand why it's important to people in the industry, but I'd prefer how many people actually saw it.

Well, I'd think "Gone With The Wind" would probably have to be the all-time champ if you skewed it to number of asses in seats. And if you adjusted for inflation, too ( which they do with box office numbers sometimes...it's interesting to see what movies fly up into the Top 10 when you adjust ) .

I saw the flick this afternoon, & actually liked it more than I thought I would ( not a big comics geek, but I really dug the first 2 ) . They really pulled out all the stops this time.

One thing that bugged me ( ironically enough, as I cuss like a sailor ) is some of the language in there, like calling Juggernaut a "dickhead". It just seemed out of place to me, & one of those things that I bet wouldn't be in there if Singer was involved instead of Ratner.

apparently they had a part for him but the dude that played him had serious scheduling conflicts with the timing and they opted to just leave the character out rather than have someone else play his part.

I just hope that the Wolverine movie has nothing to do with his origin. Part of what makes Wolverine cool is his mystery and anytime they get too much into his early origins in the comics it has generally stunk. I would love to see a good director take on the Claremont/Frank Miller mini-series, but that's probably too much to hope for. But honestly, who could resist a movie with Wolverine AND ninjas.

Well, it was pretty pointless but Angel's being a mutant was what led to the "cure" being thought up and all that money thrown into it.

Dispose of the Cure bullshit, lose Angel, and write one killer movie based on the Dark Phoenix. Coulda been great. That was a good story arc.

AND HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT TO GIVE COLOSSUS A RUSSIAN ACCENT?!?!?!? The guy has about 2 lines in both movies he's in and they can't bother to give him an accent... wtf.

Movie makes me sad.

My review: pret-ty lame, Milhouse.

SPOILERS AHEAD IF THAT'S EVEN POSSIBLE NOW

It was just a series of brief scenes where the director tried to squeeze emotional impact out of plot elements that had about 5 minutes to develop. "Jean's back! Scott's dead! That one kid's ice skating with that other one! Professor X is dead! Magneto's power is gone! Magneto's power is back! Professor X is alive!"

And all we have left to look forward to on the superhero movie front are Superman, Ghost Rider, and that Luke Wilson romantic comedy.

Saw it tonight too. I liked it better than the first, which I thought was kind of clunky, but it wasn't nearly as good as the 2nd.

spoilers, but just see the fucking thing already.

Things I liked
Madrox was pretty good even though his part was kind of small. I liked that he was kind of goofy too.

Some of the action sequences were great. The Bridge, Iceman Vs. Pyro, a few of the scenes with Phoenix, though I agree they could've done more with her character. Magneto attacking the convoy.

Fastball Special.

"I'm the Juggernaut, Bitch"

Things I didn't like, mostly comic nerd stuff
Juggernaut looked ok but HE'S NOT A MUTANT. Leech's powers shouldn't have any effect on him because his power is magic based.

I thought it was cool that Angel was going to be in it but he really looked goofy and his backstory was underwhelming. Beast looked a little less goofy and when he was fighting it was awesome.

I thought for most of the movie that Arclight's power was dumb hair.

Ok what the fuck is up with listing a bunch of characters in the end credits that had nothing at all to do? Psylocke, Jubiliee, Artie, Siryn, Flea, Omega Red? Also it would've been better if Marrow was a woman.

Hegel-Oh's Wrote:
Plus, The Omen looks pretty damn good.

Phat (fat/skinny guy in the church) is apparently from X-Static and I read that Juggernaut & Phoenix are based on their Ultimate X-Men origins which both of are mutant based rather than magic & cosmic entity.

Still my roommate had a good point that they said Juggernaut is supposed to be kept in solitary confinement yet he's in a moving truck with other prisoners.

i didn't know that about the Jugg. I thought he was a strong unstoppable mutant kinda guy. The magic part was that no one could take off his protective helmet.
