I've been listening to "Trying To Never Catch Up" today from this Austin band. Who's familiar with them and what else could you reccomend in the same vein?

I'm diggin' it right now.

I actually have that CD. I got it sent to me as a promo when I used to write reviews.

Is 'what made milwaukee famous' the name of the band? That's a god-awful, if it is.

Somebody posted the track 'Selling Yourself Short' back when Obner first came to be. Harmless little pop song that's definitely mix-worthy. I never ventured any further.

Yes. It's another in the long line of recent "good bands with godawful names".

From what I can find, this seems to be their only release. It's a good listen. Any comparisons I've seen have related them to Spoon, although I'm having a hard time with that comparison. I would venture to say more along the lines of poppy tracks like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah but with much more tolerable vocals, and I really like CYHSY.

I'll try to put up some tracks later on if anyone's interested.

I don't know too much about these guys except that they are breaking out, I think that they have a new release - or a wider re-release - coming out soon, that they are apparently nice guys, and that one of my bands will probably get booked with them when we are ready to play out because they owe us a favor.

they were on ACL (Franz Ferd episode). I thought they were very blah and skipped through most of it.

I think this is a great album. My buddy went to high school with one of the band members. He said they've been doing a lot more touring, etc. so hopefully they'll put out something new soon.
