I think Vitalogy was the last one I purchased. I don't understand the people who are still incredibly infatuated with them. I must have never connected with them like other people have.

I was hoping to like the new one but 2-3 songs are ok the rest are so-so and i haven't had a desire to play it since the week it came out.

After having some time to really listen to this album, I have come to this conclusion. The first 5 songs, as well as Army Reserve and Come Back, are all classic Pearl Jam. The rest of the album is not bad, but severely lacking in hooks and can get a bit boring. Part of this is sequencing issues. The transition from Line in the Sand to Parachutes is particularly a downer.

Anyway, I own all Pearl Jam's studio stuff and a bunch of the live stuff, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

i think they're a lot like the chili peppers...

their sound hasn't changed in a few albums (at least)

yet they are incapable of writing bad songs because they are so experienced and so good.

i'm sure their new one is enjoyable, i just won't take the time to listen to it b/c i'm not a big fan of theirs.

I deeply respect Pearl Jam, but there are times Vedder's singing voice flat out sucks. And fans are apparently not supposed to take note of it because the band is oh so passionate.

Good one. All experienced and good musicians release only good discs.

alright, perhaps not.

but i'm thinking of the chili peppers as an example.

they aren't doing anything innovative or particularly cool.

their last 3 albums have sounded basically the same.

but they write good solid songs (nothing spectacular mind you) that are listenable and have great hooks.

i think of pearl jam in the same way.

Except for Ten, I'm with Rami. And I do own all their studio stuff, but haven't gotten around to buying this one. I'll say though, that what I've heard is the most promising music they've recorded since Ten.

Well, I've been a fan since day 1 and I've got all their studio stuff plus more live stuff than I can keep track of. Their last few albums were real growers with me but this new one falls flat. I've only forced myself to listen about three times but it's more like background noise to me. I have to force myself to listen to it and that ain't cool. That said, I'd still see them live again because that's where they truly shine. I saw them on the last tour up in Calgary and they just killed.

I haven't listened to PJ in years, but I just heard what I'm assuming was a new song on the radio, and I thought it was pretty good.

I agree w/ spoon. Brilliant guitars, vocals make them unlistenable.... Vedder is the worst singer of a band with huge popularity. Haven't even bothered to keep track since Ten.
