right when i was getting out of punk rock music (circa '97) this band called the ataris came to the forefront.

became known when they signed with fat wreck chords. currently they are on a major. think melodic punk rock with a touch of jimmy eat world.

so my point of this thread is this. out of curiosity i got a leak of their new album. totally different band. vERY VERY SHOCKED.

here is their new description of their sound:

"We are seven friends creating music together. The music we are creating today falls somewhere alongside the likes of Swervedriver, Kent, Doves and Slowdive."

anyone that wants this - PM me.....

I haven't downloaded this yet, and when I got your PM I was like, "well I will download this just because he took the time to upload and pm it". But, I was NOT excited or interested, until I read this thread.

Slowdive? Curiosity piqued.

The lead singer grew up in Anderson, IN. I used to be pretty into them but the lyrics were always pretty bad. They have a few good songs, though. I'd be curious to hear their new sound to see if they can pull it off.

Is this the Ataricade Fire?

That's what I'm predicting.

Aah, the 'Boys of Summer' cover. Thank you. I was trying to match the band to the one song I should have known from them, but couldn't figure it out.

The songs on their myspace suck like only major-chord-boring-asss-emo can, but the newest ones are a few years old.

It would be nice if they have gotten better. Get ready for the Big Splintering when these kids abandon the sinking emo ship and glom onto to random sub-genres.

Oh yeah, it's already in effect. It probably started with Vagrant signing Eels, Paul Westerberg, and the Lemonheads.

But you're bound to see Dashboard go folk and Alkaline Trio become Franz Ferdinand soundalikes.
